Bus Driver Finds Her Sailor!

060110sailor.jpg Most Fleet Week interactions are, well, fleeting, but one city bus driver is getting another lucky shot at a chance encounter with a handsome sailor. Bus driver Yvonne Farrington was only able to snap a photo with the sailor near the Circle Line Pier on Friday, and had to continue on her bus route before even getting his name. She turned to 1010WINS for help, and the Navy came through with her man!

Farrington has plans to meet with Navy Ens. Larry Chester today, just a day before the Iwo Jima leaves town. Farrington, who is recently divorced, said it wouldn't even matter if Chester was already taken, telling the Daily News, "I'm gonna say all the things I didn't say in the rush to snap that picture and get back on the bus. I'm gonna tell him what a gorgeous smile he has." She said the two connected upon first meeting, and that he even bent down to give her a kiss on the cheek!

If things don't work out, any other sailors can still benefit from Farrington's sailor love. She said, "Uniformed personnel can ride the bus for free."

"Farrington... said it wouldn't even matter if Chester was already taken"

There's no indication in any of the linked articles that she said that. Did you do a separate interview, or just make that up?

This is a really sweet story, but I can't help but wonder if "...ride the bus for free" is a euphemism.

Thank you Gotham Extremist, no one else notice that statement. Even if the man is taken you are still going to talk to him, a home wrecker in the making. Why not just wish him well or wish him a happy life if he is already taken? If he is not taken then go for it but respect that he may be unavailable. Nice story but it sounds like lust, a man in uniform got her wet down there. What if dude was in a garbage man uniform stinking, would this be a story? No, because she wouldn't want to talk to him. You are recently divorce yet ready to talk to another man, black women are sad. Larry Chester, you may want to be careful, you are in the Navy, go overseas and have a better pick of women.

Geez, are all you Commenters cranky and hungover from the long weekend? It's a nice story!!

Too right. It's a story straight out of On The Town!

"it wouldn't even matter if Chester was already taken"

The mentality of a home wrecker.

And he IS TAKEN. She said his wife is lucky, and he was a bit embarrassed by the attention:

    the mta needs new uniforms.

looking at the picture, i think she'll be lucky to get 2 months.

  • eyekantspel

Maybe he can spit on her so she can take a 2 month vacation.

She said "Uniformed personnel can ride the bus for free." Is that MTA policy, or do bus drivers simply make up their own rules?

  • Guest

no no. he's gonna spit "in" her you-know-what.

uh... omg. too early for this. where's my rum?

  • Ritchie

It's always too early to be disgusting. And since none of you seem to want to do the research, here are the rules:

"If you are a Military Active Duty you can use the Subway or Bus for free by showing your Military Identification."

(so no, it's not a euphemism/she didn't make up her own rules/etc etc etc):
