Manhattanhenge Returns This Sunday, Man

Want an excuse to head into the abyss of Manhattan this Memorial Day weekend? Mother Nature's got you covered: this Sunday, Manhattanhenge returns! The visually stunning phenomenon that occurs twice a year when the sun sets in perfect alignment with Manhattan’s street grid will take place at 8:17 p.m. Sunday—it will fully illuminate every single cross-street for the last 15 minutes of daylight. And you don't need 3D glasses to melt your mind with this one, bro!

The second occurrence will happen Monday, July 12th, which will give you a view with half the sun above and half the sun below the horizon. Experts advise you show up 30 minutes early for the optimal views: "For best effect, position yourself as far east in Manhattan as possible. But ensure that when you look west across the avenues you can still see New Jersey. Clear cross streets include 14th, 23rd, 34th. 42nd, 57th, and several streets adjacent to them. The Empire State building and the Chrysler building render 34th street and 42nd streets especially striking vistas."

And if half-suns don't quite whet your whistle, you can see the full sun on the grid Monday, May 31 at 8:17 PM and Sunday, July 11 at 8:24 PM.

A Spinal Tap reference would be redundant at this point.

Would a Spinal Tap reference here be tired or retro at this point?
