16-Year-Old Fatally Shot In Boerum Hill

2010_05_bondshoot.jpg A 16-year-old girl died after being shot in the head at the intersection of Bond and Warren Streets in the Boerum Hill section of Brooklyn. According to WABC 7, the shooting occurred just before midnight and Al-Taya Conyers was found in front of a church; she was pronounced dead at the hospital. "The victim lived in the area of the shooting, which occurred near the Gowanus Houses in Brooklyn, a city-run apartment complex," where residents say they heard gunfire. One resident worried about his kids, "It makes you think you want to keep them in the house, and you know they're teenagers, they want to be outside. But it's dangerous." There are no arrests; the suspect may have been wearing a red shirt.

She had an order of protection against an ex boyfriend that had just expired. I'll be willing to bet he's suspect number one right now.

Tear down the projects! All projects.

This is very sad and unfortunately happening more often in NYC lately. Today is Thursday so the Mayor is probably checking the weather for his weekly trip to the Bahamas. Ray Kelly knows that Bloomberg has bought off the media along everyone else in this city so no one holds him accountable for what is going. Can you imagine if Bill Thompson would've won the election and all these killings and surge in crime would be happening under his watch? The media would be screaming, and right fully so but since no one dares question the Mayor or hold him accountable we are experiencing a return to the time of lawlessness in NYC. The Mayor just walks around with his head in the clouds thinking of more silly art projects, pedestrian walkways, etc. for four days out of the week and the remaining three days on vacation. I just wish he would get as mad about these incidents as he gets about working people asking developers to pay workers $10/hr if they want subsidies from the city.

    This.

People gave up way too early in the last election. The "my vote doesn't count" mentality results in corruption and ineffective government.

  • wingedearth

And what happens when you vote and the guy you vote for is corrupt and ineffective (as is the other guy on the ballot)?

  • FJF

Well nothing I guess, but the choice we had was for more of the same governing style that we had for eight years vs. something new. Considering that our incumbent had a record of favoring real estate over everything else, I was ready for a change, whatever that may have been.

NYPD seriously needs to step up their game in those projects. I live nearby and there is always some crazy stuff happening there.

Wasn't a lady shot in the head on Warren street last year while just sitting on her stoop?

  • Those projects are the pitts for sure.. I was walking by there last summer and a dude with full on frontal nudity walked right on by like his penis wasn't hanging half way down his leg. Ahhh, New York.

Wonder what the stat is for kids under 18 killed in nyc year to date. Way higher then the national average for murders I am sure.

For all their bluster, Kelly and Bloomberg are doing little to control the gang violence and general crime in the outer boroughs.

Thanks Mike for all of your management skills in bringing us back to the early 90's life quality. I really wished you had just stayed in Boston.

They are doing something about it... Not reporting it! That way the numbers say NYC is safe.

    Simple right?

  • DanielJ

Shouldn't the victim have been wearing a red shirt?

  • schadenfreudian mensch

Why? Was she part of the away team on Star Trek? Is that why she's dead?

  • rasputinsghost

i lolled at this but seriously this is fucked up

  • Mr. Shankly
