Rape Victim's Mother Arrives In U.S. To Claim Body

2010_05_flushinall.jpg The mother of the Chinese immigrant who died after being brutally beaten and raped in a Queens alley arrived yesterday. The Daily News reports, "Sobbing inconsolably as she stepped off a plane at Newark Airport, the mother was too distraught to speak of her daughter, Yu Yao, 23, who was raped and fatally beaten in Queens by a pipe-wielding madman. Escorted through the airport terminal by relatives, the heartbroken mother collapsed into a chair and laid her head in a cousin's lap."

Yao, who had arrived in NYC two months ago on a student visa, was taken off life support on Friday, after being struck with a metal pipe and then sexually assaulted in Flushing on Sunday May 16. According to the Queens DA's office, she suffered a "fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and trauma to the vagina." While one witness's call to the police enabled the arrest of suspect Carlos Salazar Cruz, Assemblywoman Grace Meng said other people witnessed the attack but did not do anything.

NY1 reports that community activists held an anti-violence vigil at the attack site on 41st Road, urging residents to report violent acts. Community Prevention Alternatives' Martha Florez-Vazquez said, "I feel that it's important to send out a message to the community that it takes a village and that it's up to our neighbors to prevent crime.” One resident added, "I'm very concerned... no one should be beaten to death the way this young lady was."

At what point did we forget that the other people we see every day are human beings? I just don't understand how anyone could do this to another person.

  • ozik

I sort of feel like everyone in NYC should line up and apologize to this woman. Impractical, yes, but it seems like the only decent thing to do.

Researcher Deborah Schurman-Kauflin Ph.D. of the Violent Crimes Institute, reports on the analysis of 1,500 violent crimes from January 1999 through April 2006 that included serial rapes, serial murders, sexual homicides and child molestation committed by illegal aliens. The data is found in her report, The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants in the United States, which notes that, based on a figure of 12 million illegal immigrants and the fact that more of this population is male than average, sex offenders among illegal aliens are a higher percentage than sex offenders in the general population.

Condolences also, as I stated in the previous article.

    But a point:

American citizens commit a proportion of crimes, that is obvious and undeniable.

The "undocumented", AKA Illegals because the have violated Federal Law by entering and remaining in this country illegally, also commit other crimes on top of their original infraction. Reduce the Illegals, you reduce crime. Logic and math.

And I have not seen any citation of the accused's "Immigration Status". It's not PC to state it. But I do think that if the accused is already in violation of Federal Law, it is reasonable to state it, as he is already a criminal.

  • laisla

I don't think most people are worried about the crime of illegally entering the country. But thanks for playing!

  • ProcedureTurn

Just because you are most likely (or your parents) an illegal immigrant yourself, doesnt mean you have to disagree with me.

    Dont be so defensive.

  • MollzieD

I think these people who are bringing up the immigration status of this monster are conveniently ignoring the fact that American citizens commit heinous crimes, too. Ignorant assholes. Anyway, this guy should die slowly and painfully.

Condolences to Yu Yao's family. This is scary and tragic.

  • laisla

Of course, they are! Any chance to spout their racist hatred. Even in the time of someone's tragic, senseless, horrible death. Classy, isn't it?

  • Billiamsburg

another hard working family ruined by illegal immigration. NYC should adopt the Arizona law.

  • laisla

Logic fail. Stick with the kids, junior.

  • ProcedureTurn

you must be an illegal immigrant yourself or mexican. Go back to mexico!!!!! and take your criminal ways with you!!!

They should give the mother a pipe and put her in a room with Cruz while he's tied down and let her go to work.

  • pd2009

I can think of one person who now deserves to be beaten the same way...

Be extra careful when around illegal immigrants. They have nothing to lose other than being deported. Whta a horrendous awful crime.

  • laisla

Um, seriously? That is such a stupid comment.

NYC is not safe! In spite of what under-reported crime statistics tell you.

Learn from this tragedy! Especially the women of NYC. Keep people away from your personal space, especially in less crowded areas. GET THE IPOD OUT OF YOUR EARS!! If you don't trust someone, that is your instincts, trust them.

Keep your eyes and ears open. ALWAYS! Anywhere on the streets. Please learn to protect yourselves!

    RIP. So Sad.

  • Powerhugs

"NYC IS NOT SAFE" Well in a city of 8 million people its pretty damn safe as compared to when I remembered it growing up in the 70s and 80s you just need to use common sense and have your eyes and ears open at all times...This incident is indeed a tragedy and it pains me deeply when a foreigner comes here and gets horribly victimized and that the common spin in the News is "Welcome to NY pal!!!" We all live here with law abiding citizens and our share of scum too...and where is your evidence of under reported crime statistics???

  • Gotham Extremist

What tragedy for any mother! May the Cruzs be cursed for generations to come!
