When Attorney General Andrew Cuomo kicked off his long-expected campaign for governor, he also unveiled a logo, which shows a big "C" around the state of NY and them "UOMO." Gothamist reader jt10000 commented, "Strange campaign logo. The red in the C is not good, unless they intentionally want some people to read it as Uomo, which is possible."
The Daily News says of the logo, "Like nearly all political campaigns these days, from dogcatcher to President, Cuomo's new logo looks a lot like Barack Obama's in 2008," and also points out, "The problem is, the C is rendered so abstractly that it looks like the candidate's name might be UOMO - Italian for 'man.'" A Scottish graphic designer who blogs about logo design weighs in as well, "The biggest issue is legibility. Anyone unfamiliar with the name will read UOMO, not CUOMO." Also, anyone familiar with Cuomo may recall an unfortunate poster used during the 1977 mayoral race between his dad Mario and Ed Koch.
As for possible suspects who told Cuomo this logo was good, you could pick from his team, which includes dad Mario, or his girlfriend, TV "Semi-Homemade" chef Sandra Lee, who is known for "spicing up packaged cake mix with peach juice, transforming artichokes into striking table centerpieces and displaying humdrum hand soap in an elegant crystal decanter."
