Worries Over Possible Dogfighting In Prospect Park

2010_05_ppp.jpg According to the Post, some Prospect Park-goers are on the "lookout for signs of dogfighting...The Brooklyn DA's Office has asked for their help after receiving two complaints. One Park Slope resident contacted authorities after spotting what looked like dogfight training at about 7:30 a.m. last Sunday. The dog owner, who asked not to be named, said she saw four pit bulls tied to trees near the picnic house and a man baiting another pit bull into attacking a second man holding a cushion." Which sounds horrible. The Parks Department received an anonymous call last summer "about pit-bull training near the Parade Ground."

Please people, keep reporting them and take pictures. This should not be permitted.

I walk my dog every day in Prospect Park and haven't seen what is described above but I have had the unfortunate pleasure of running into groups of young guys walking their pits that are draped in huge chains and locks. Telltale signs of training. Unfortunately nothing will be done until someone/somepet is seriously hurt.

You'd think with a man as powerful as Borough President Marty Markowitz living nearby that he'd increase some patrols. But I guess his days are spent counting lobbyist money in his cushy Windsor Terrace home.

Even when the pitbulls get out of control and do maul an innocent person nothing will change. All the people who fetishize these animals will come out to defend the breed's place in our lives. Animals may not be for fighting or attacking, but that's precisely what this breed of dog was created to do. It doesn't belong near large populations of children and people it doesn't know/trust.

it not the breed but the people abuse them. they are training these poor dogs to fight, horrible. don't blame the victim but the abusers. These abusers don't belond in society

I was just there the other day I didn't see these pieces of trash which is too bad because I would have stood up for these dogs. shame of people animals are not for fighting or attacking.

Sigh, doesn't matter. When these pieces of trash are caught, they receive little more than a slap on the hand. I can only hope that the pits get out of control on them, and maul them to death.
