State Dinner Crashers Stopped Near White House

Amazing: Last night, the fameballing couple who crashed the first Obama state dinner were stopped by the Secret Service last night in the vicinity of the White House, where the Obamas' second state dinner was being held. Michaele and Tarez Salahi's limo driver ran a red light and then entered a restricted area. ABC News reports the vehicle was stopped and the driver and occupants were questioned: "A source familiar with the situation says Michaele Salahi was wearing a white mink coat, while Tareq Salahi was in a suit." Still, a DCist commenter imagines that Michaele, who wore a sari to the first state dinner, "was in a Lucha libre outfit, with mask, tights, boots, and cape worn by Jack Black in Nacho Libre."

I find it hard to believe the cops would have ID'd everyone in the car for running a red light, which leads me to believe the Salahis planted this story themselves.

HuffPo broke the story and included details about the fantabulous fancy place where the Salahis went to dinner and how they ate crab cakes and "The group dined on crab cakes, grilled fish and other dishes." All the class of a Page Six entry.

They weren't stopped just for running a red light, which by itself probably wouldn't even prompt the Secret Service to make a car stop.

It says above, "ran a red light and entered a restricted area." The linked story goes into more detail; it seems they didn't actually enter the restricted zone, but the turn signals indicated an intent to:

"A Secret Service Uniformed Division officer “observed a stretch limousine pass through a red light at 15th and Constitution,” Edwin M. Donovan, the Special Agent in Charge for the U.S. Secret Service told ABC News. “The vehicle then signaled that it was turning into the Ellipse parking area at 16th and Constitution, a restricted area."
