Cop Struck By Motorcyclist In Grave Condition

2010_05_perpsearch.jpg A police officer who was chasing after possible suspects was struck by a motorcyclist and is now in grave condition. Officer Carlos Olmedo was hit at 20th Avenue and 84th Street in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn around 1 a.m. The driver of the motorcycle was also injured.

Olmedo had been responding to a call about a stolen car at the time. Witness Ifeta Feratovic told the Daily News, "Two cops were running after two kids. They were, like, teenagers. The cops were screaming at them to stop. When[the officers] were crossing the street, then a motorcycle hit one of the cops. I saw the motorcycle try to swerve to miss him, but he didn't have enough time and the cop was too close."

Feratovic added, "The cop was then on the floor face down. He wasn't moving, responding, nothing. The motorcyclist wasn't moving at first, but later on he was able to stand up." 1010 WINS says Olmedo, a four-year veteran with three children, suffered brain injuries and underwent "surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain" at Lutheran Hospital.

    Terrible news.

    Hope for a speedy recovery.

Let's see if the usual gang of police-haters on Gothamist have any venom left to spew.

Sad story & all & hopefully the officer involved will recover, but unless it happened inside, he was on the ground, not the floor.
