City, State Plan MTA Audit

2010_05_magglass.jpg This should be fun: NY1 reports that State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and City Comptroller John Liu "announced they will audit the MTA to determine if bus and subway service disruptions are always necessary, as well as the financial impact of those disruptions. The audit is expected to take months to complete." For lovers of the "two sets of books" mythology, check this out.

The MTA shouldn't be its own financial entity. If Queens Boulevard suddenly needs repairs, they don't start charging everybody who drives on it a little more and eliminate blue cars from the road... it's just part of the overall operating budget for the city.

The city should get more control over the MTA.

They audited the MTA a couple of years ago. Found out they were cooking two books and did absolutely nothing about it.

What a waste of time and energy. MTA = Corruption 101

I have to believe that a lot of Brooklyn along the G would be a very different economic landscape if the subway was clean, timely, and reliable

    I completely agree.

The corrupt auditing the corrupt. This will be a farce that only results in consulting fees for all involved and a lame report saying that everything is as it should be. If anyone should be auditing the MTA (and the corrupt Port Authority) its the US Attorney Generals office w/ assist from the FBI.
