Dallas Braden's Grandmother Tells A-Rod To "Stick It"

Oakland Athletics lefty Dallas Braden pitched a perfect game yesterday, making him the 19th pitcher in MLB history to do so. And what's more, his grandmother decided to continue Braden's fight with Alex Rodriguez by saying, after the perfect game, "Stick it, A-Rod."

Rodriguez annoyed Braden when he touched the pitcher's mound rubber while trotting across the field to first base during an April 22 game. At the time, Braden complained, "I don’t go over there and run laps at third base. I don’t spit over there. I stay away. You guys ever see anybody run across the mound like that? He ran across the pitcher’s mound. Foot on my rubber," while Rodriguez said he didn't realize how upset Braden was, "He just told me to get off his mound. That was a little surprising. I’ve never quite heard that. Especially from a guy that has a handful of wins in his career."

Now, with Braden in baseball history with his win over the Tampa Bay Rays, it's only natural that reporters wanted to know what A-Rod thought. At first, he said, "No more about him, please," but later he offered, "I've learned in my career, it is much better to be recognized for all the great things you do on the field. Good for him, he threw a perfect game. And better yet, he beat the Rays."

On Friday, Braden had said of the Yankees slugger, "One, I was always told if you give a fool enough rope, he'll hang himself, and with those comments, he had all the rope he needed. No. 2, I didn't know there was a criteria in order to compete against A-Rod." Man, Braden really hates A-Rod.

    Ass Hat.

Surprised he didn't say anything about Longoria's attempted bunt late in the game.

  • whitecastlerock

If Cashman traded for him tomorrow Yankee fans would be ejaculating...

  • boogpowell

Ignorant comment. Yankees trade for talent, not 1 hit wonders. And secondly, more than half of the yankees roster is home grown. Clearly you dont know baseball. I think your mistaking yourself ejaculating to the picture of Braden's grandma.

  • whitecastlerock

Umm remember Hideki Irabu? Homegrown? Yeah okay-go back to spewing jizz all over your Derek Jeter rookie card...

  • boogpowell

Yea I remember him. Every team signs free agents. I also remember Jeter, Mariano, Pettitte, Posada, Cano, Gardner, Cervelli, Robertson, Hughes, Chamberlain to name a few. All home grown. Hideki Irabu was 12 years ago. Has it been that long since you've watched a baseball game? Enjoy you flannels and indie music.

Good for him, perfect game against the best team in bball is something to be proud of; now take your granny out back and both of you shut the fuck up.

You guys don't seem like you know anything about baseball. That's an unwritten rule on the field, you stick to your turf. That is your sanctuary. Baseball is a psychological game like every other sport, and obviously A-Rod pissed this guy off and psyched him out.

Also, I have never, ever seen an opposing player step on the mound after he is thrown out.

  • boogpowell

Your right they dont usually show it on TV. But if you actually go to games you'll see it happen, especially at the end of an inning. Braden clearly overeacted and Arod clearly knew what he was doing.

Rodriguez: 17 seasons, 2,195 MLB games played.

Braden: Fourth season, been in 68 major league games.

    That's 2,195 games to 68.

Not that it makes one right or the other wrong, but it does make it clear which can speak with more authority about what happens on the field at that level.

  • jaycjay

Never? But it must have happened plenty of times, because so many pitchers say they hate it when it happens. Not that they'd hypothetically hate it if anyone were ever to do it, but they hate it when it happens.

And other pitchers are saying they've never heard of this "rule."

What it sounds like to me, really, is an old-school thing (most of the pitchers I've read saying that it is a rule are retired or near it) that a young and brash guy like Braden heard somewhere and decided to embrace.

Braden should talk once his career record is at least .500. Although a perfect game does make your legacy immortal (see, e.g., Don Drysdale, who really didn't have much of a career).

  • boogpowell

Keep in mind that Don Larsen's perfect game was in the World Series. No one else has ever even pitched even a No Hitter in the playoffs. And with the 100 rounds of playoffs we have these days this feat still stands.

  • EastRiver

Don Drysdale is in the Hall of Fame, was an eight time All-Star, a Cy Young award winner, and a three time World Series champion. More important, he never threw a perfect game. Perhaps you are thinking of Don Larsen.

  • GOP

Sorry, brain fart. Yes, Don Larsen.

  • gattopardo

"I've learned in my career, it is much better to be recognized for all the great things you do on the field." I imagine A-Rod learned this because his off-the-field actions include taking performance enhancing drugs.

Braden is the business, and so is his Grandma.

  • boogpowell

Braden is such a baby. Wawawa, Arod touched my mound. This guy is still a nobody. This will go down as one of the most unlikely events in baseball when Braden retires as simply an average player. This is similar to Bobo Holloman's no hitter. You say, who's Bobo Holloman? Exactly. Hope the A's enjoy golfing in October when the Yankees are repeating in the playoffs. Also, clearly the apple doesnt fall too far from the tree. Grandma Braden should shut her ignorant mouth.

  • etypical

I don't care if A-Rod pooped on "his" mound, Braden should be embarrassed to have been up there shrieking like a demented mouse. He's lucky he threw a great game, it earned him a testicle back.
