Sanitation Worker Caught Writing Undeserved Ticket

phpbN7WSVPM.jpg A Brooklyn building owner was recently fined $25 for putting recyclables in a black trash bag designated for non-recyclables. Problem is: there were no recyclables in that trash bag.

Tony Scott told Fox 5 News that his surveillance camera caught the Department of Sanitation worker walking on the sidewalk and simply kicking trash bags before writing up tickets. His ticket read: "did observe metal cans, unsoiled paper, and cereal boxes out for collection in 1 black plastic bag non-designated for any recyclables." But he the worker never even opened the bag, which could mean the agency is walking around giving out undeserved tickets. Scott says, "They can just write down anything. It may not be for $25, it can be for much more. It's like taking food out of my family's mouth, for a ticket that's unwarranted."

Scott says he enforces a strict recycling policy with his tenants, and has even made them sign an agreement pledging to separate their trash properly. He has fought the ticket, and was told by a judge that he'd get the decision in the mail within the next 30 days.

FINALLY, carlson writes about something other than some fuck animal dying.

  • justthinkin

The homeless people in my neighborhood are more thorough in checking the trash then these morons that the city employs.

  • wow 14th street

I saw this guys blurry video on hi def TV last night

to me it looked like the sanny cop did not

have to open the garbage bags as they were ripped open

and you could see the forbidden garbage just by walking by

or as they say "Visual Inspection".

This sure has gotten a lot of news coverage for something

    that goes on every day.

Good to see you, Mr. Thibodeau.

    Perly lives downtown?

Conversely, the neighboring building to my friend's building is always throwing an unbelievable amount of trash out in front of their building. There are mattresses, open trash bags, piled all over the sidewalk. The sidewalk is pretty narrow here so many times you have to divert out into the street to get by. And we have seen rats running in and out of the piles. Is really disgusting.

But, despite numerous calls to 311, nothing was ever done. No tickets, no clean-up. Why can't we divert these guys writing bogus citations over to this place?

$350 sanitation ticket that was written to us for "trash and other debris strewn about the street in front of the residence."

Funny you mention that since my friend just got hit with the same ticket and it was at 2am what building maintenance person is going to be awake to ensure the front of the building is clean at that time of the hour?

What's next? A video of the tide rising and falling? I'm sure that happens just a certainly as any city agent writing a bogus ticket.

nothing makes me hate NYC as much as getting an some petty revenue generating ticket.

nothing. I can deal with traffic, smog, crazy people, crime, noise, filth and everything else,

but when you make criminals out of hardworking people in order to generate revenue, it really makes my blood boil.

Our Co-op had an issue with this. The "Trash Cop" wrote our building a ticket for putting a pizza box in the recycling, saying it was "soiled cardboard." When asked if we'd also get a ticket for putting it in the trash, he said, "Probably, because we generally don't open the bags, just kick them looking for cans, glass or cardboard." So, when we get takeout pizza I now throw the empty boxes into the public trashcans on the corners...total pain in the butt, but easier than trying to fight a ticket.

Our household has just won a judgement for a $350 sanitation ticket that was written to us for "trash and other debris strewn about the street in front of the residence." The problem being, the trash was VERY CLEARLY in front of our neighbors house. We had photographs for proof, which were taken about 6 minutes after the ticket was written. The judge dismissed all charges, and no fine was implemented. A great outcome, but the fact that we had to go down to city hall to even deal with this ticket was completely bogus and a complete waste of time. There is no way the sanitation worker couldn't see which house the trash was infront of. It was pure laziness. I think they should all be fired!

"There is no way the sanitation worker couldn't see which house the trash was infront of."

Probably ticketed that one, too. And the one on the other side of it.

  • jaycjay

Did you hear the one about the Sanitation worker who wrote out bogus citations? He was arrested for impersonating a Traffic Enforcement Agent.

You're a fool if you don't see how these "green" regulations are going to get so invasive and abusive and simply an excuse to milk the citizenry for more and more $$$$$.

  • robingee

There's corruption everywhere... we still have to stick with our Green Policies and try to help the planet. Can't give up on the Earth and throw trash around because of some unwarranted ticket-writing.

  • justthinkin

C;mon ides, you must be fairly familiar with these violations, given the trash that you spew out.

  • Thespis

I...I don't know what to say. I agree with you.

It feels...funny. And disturbing. Like an angry clown.

Fascism isn't just about large invading armies, tanks and jackboots. It's about petty, busybody bureaucrats and officials nitpicking the crap out of decent people.

Learning can often be a disorienting experience. Clearly there must be a core of common sense underneath all the liberal dogma you've have dumped on you.
