Food Vendors Announced for Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1

Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation has just announced the winners of the food concessions for the park's Pier 1. There was tough competition for the right to sell food in the gorgeous new park, with Danny Meyer, The Good Fork, and the Red Hook Lobster Pound all vying for real estate. But in the end, they were bested by burritos and ice cream. The envelope, please.

  • Vendy-award winners Calexico Carne Asada, which operates two popular food carts in SoHo as well as a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Carroll Gardens, will have a food cart serving tacos, quesadillas, and other Mexican-style fare.
  • The delicious, organic, and Brooklyn-based Blue Marble Ice Cream will fatten everyone up on the south edge of the Harbor View Lawn.
  • West Village seafood restaurant Ditch Plains will operate out of the gatehouse at the entrance to Pier 1, serving lobster rolls, sandwiches, hot dogs, French fries, snack foods, drinks, and desserts.
  • Pier 66 Maritime’s seasonal wine bar will pour vino nearby, to be consumed within designated Puritanical safe zones.

Concessions are expected to open mid-summer, hopefully in time for Movies With a View—they're screening The Big Lebowski this year!

It sounds like a great line-up to me. The Brooklyn Heights area needs a good Mexican place especially. Guess you can't please every taste.

I don't think there has been a park more definitively designed for yupsters than this

You're right. They should have just paved it and told people they can barbeque there.
