Emirates Airlines Flight Asked To Return To JFK Gate

2010_05_emirates3.jpg An Emirates Airlines flight which was on a JFK Airport taxiway was asked to return to a gate. NBC New York says, "Senior government officials confirm that authorities are responding to security incident at John F. Kennedy Airport. The nature of the incident is not yet known, but sources tell NBC that an Emirates flight ready to take off to Dubai was asked to return to the gate this afternoon." On Monday, bomb suspect Faisal Shahzad was apprehended on an Emirates JFK-Dubai flight; even though he was on the no-fly list, he managed to get on (the U.S. government and Emirates differ on what happened).

Update: Initially it was thought a no-fly passenger was on board—according to the Post, "The FAA said the plane, Emirates Airlines flight 204, was blocked at about noon by US Customs and Border Patrol vehicles and Port Authority cops on the runway"—but it was a case of mistaken identity. And nerves?

FYI: It's Customs and Border Protection, not Patrol. If you're going to write a story, get your facts straight. Thanks.

Someone at the airline was in on the escape attempt -- using the no-fly list delay as an alibi. This is retaliation by CBP.

To all jihad fighters, don't fly Emirates, you will get caught, instead try a low key airline like South West.

they should stop profiling and stop asking these middle eastern flights to return to gate. that's just wrong!

  • longacre

Right, they should start screwing with flights to Billings, Montana just to make it fair.

  • diablofreak

exactly, just like Arizona cops should start asking 7 year old kids and 85 year old women for some ID!

  • faprilano

hey, 7 year old or 85 year old, if you are here legally than you have nothing to fear.

  • longacre

False alarm, name was similar but not the same person.

  • Politburo

So how do you get from "The crime rate.. seems to be substantially higher" to "it's time we keep all.. players in cages"?
