Video: Teen Tasered After Running Onto Field at Phillies Game

At least he wasn't naked like the Mets Citi Field streaker (or the Coachella wizard). Police guarding Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies, sent a message last night to all those who dream of running out onto the field during a Major League Baseball game. As seen in this video below, an unidentified 17-year-old boy hopped a fence and dashed around the outfield in the eighth inning, eluding two security officers.. for a little while. The crowd roars and the teen appears exultant, until a cop finally shoots his Taser at him. He's not so stoked after that.

This appears to be the first time a Taser has ever been used on a Major League Baseball field to neutralize a trespasser. According to the AP, "Several Phillies placed gloves over their faces and appeared to be stifling laughter at the wild scene." The suspect is being charged with criminal trespass, and the team and the police are said to be investigating whether "appropriate force" was used. What do you think—should teenagers who disrupt professional sporting events be Tasered, or simply shot on sight?

Fat fuck can't outrun skinny kid, goes to the taser. Case closed.

  • dadoc

Yeah, but how often do you get to pull a running 20-foot shot at a moving target in front of thousands? Sure beats baseball!

  • Holsum Pan

    Punk ass, bitch ass cops.

  • NEW YORK FIEND

Pretty indifferent on this story, but I have to say, there's been funnier tasings.

  • LB

Lol. I love it , I watched that shit about fifty times yesterday at work laughing my ass off ! Good for the cop that zapped him . He got what he deserved by making a fat cop run after him . Lol, * Friends dare a fool to run out on the field to prove how stupid and gullible he is, Gets security to chase after him, Alludes them for about five, Or six minutes, Slips by two of them in thoughts that he is in the clear to head back too the stands , Then Out of nowhere, Zap,.......Sizzle,..............Drops to the ground like a dead moose !*

  • chipmcd

Didn't see it live or don't know what the circumstances were but, I feel it would be excessive... if he had a valid reason for running on the field. Otherwise, it was a semi-quick solution to a problem. Hey, if he thought it would be fun or funny to run out there, I bet there were probably a few that thought it was fun and funny that he got dropped like a sack of potatoes with that taser. I don't think people paid to watch a guy get chased around the field that night.

If people don't want tasers and prefer the old school method of tackling, then what happens when stadiums hire college linebackers, who didn't get drafted to the NFL, to be security? When they start taking peeps down (hey, that could be a good tryout showcase for them) and someone gets a boo boo, will a lot of peeps start crying about that, too?

  • nivek

    Fucking hipsters.

  • asg749d

how often does this happen that it has to merit the use of a taser gun? even if the gun is used as a deterrent to future invaders, is that really the way to go?

how come hockey players are not tasered out of the fights they constantly get into? how is that permissible, but an occasional intrusion to a baseball game by a lunatic not tolerated, or dealt with in another way?

really people...vent out here and let me know.

  • ribaldry

I HIGHLY SUPPORT TASERING 17 YEAR OLD BITCHES WITH DORK NOSES AND GAY SHORTS

  • LibHater

everyone is warned before the game that if you jump on the field you will be subject to police action..prolly some stupid kid boozed up before the game trying to impress a girl..and for everyone saying its been done for decades baseball players arent just regular guys anymore..these guys are million dollar investments now..and to the poster saying a taser is a deadly weapon, learn your facts fool

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

It is YOU who needs to learn the facts. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f35_1180404904

Police in Baltimore are in trouble after a man they tased died, the 4th to die in 12 months from being tasered.

  • bittinho

There have been many incidents where fans run on the field and injure other fans or players (someone mentioned Monica Seles and that first base coach a few years back got punched pretty bad). Also, this outcome seems less dangerous than if 5 security guards jump on the kid possibly injuring the kid and themselves in the process. It doesn't seem like the kid was too shaken up by the incident.

  • Brian

    Stupid phuck.

  • OhMy

Totally wrong. The kid wasn't harming himself or anyone else. (But I do find this kind of thing annoying as all hell.) Not only is a taser dangerous, but he could have broken a collarbone or dislocated his shoulder - at the least. Falling over as deadweight is bad enough when you're standing still.

I am not a litigious person, but I would be dialing a lawyer about this one.

  • jaycjay

" I would be dialing a lawyer about this one."

Absolutely no chance of winning such a suit. He wasn't injured, he was breaking the law, and he was evading a police officer after being commanded to stop. What would be the grounds for a lawsuit?

Personally I don't think it was an appropriate use of force (obviously the guy wasn't going to escape), however at least from the Philly police chief's statement it does fall within the department's guidelines -- they're allowed to use a taser to stop a fleeing suspect.

What he is questioning, actually, is whether it's appropriate for police officers to even be stationed where they'd be involved in this kind of incident, or whether guarding the field from fan incursions should be left to private security.

  • JenChungsBaby

Only a whambulance chaser would take this case.

  • woodendesigner

Maybe if that cop lost a few pounds he would be able to catch the kid. This seems to be a bit excessive. What is the kid going to do? Fly away? He's going to get caught anyway once he get tired or tries to hop back into the stands.

  • jza1218

    Dude deserved it.

Do we need another Monica Seles stabbing incident? Just stay off the field you friggin retard. I hope Penn State revokes his acceptance letter for being a huge moron.

  • SighR

    totally excessive force.

This dude wasnt going to get away no matter how fat the cop was. Where the hell was he going to go?

And he wasnt going to hurt anyone.

  • Cannibal

I'd say it's worth being tased just for the epic facebook profile pic.

  • Horse Badorties

Yet another example of excessive force. Welcome to capitalist America.

  • Spirit of 76

Good form on the cop, with his rear arm following through like that. Although I would have opted for a fire hose.

But they're actually missing out on a valuable revenue source. Charge people a hundred bucks to legally run the bases between innings or during one of the interminable pauses between pitches. Charge them $500 each for the chance to be at bat against one of the pitchers. I'm sure lots of fans would love the right to brag that they got a home run off a major league pitcher, and lots of them probably think they could do it, too. They could charge even more if they shot it with the regular TV cameras and sportscasters and offered the footage to the fans. It's the ultimate fan fantasy, even if they strike out.

  • potsmoker

whoo hoo, lawsuit, settled out of court.

taser usage has guidelines and policies,

im sure the policy says if a naked woman with big knockers runs out on the field, cue the benny hill music and chase her around while knockers bounce up and down and fans cheer, tackle and cop a free feelie.

  • donewithny

what has happened to our country ?no,really, what has happened to the little things in life that make us laugh?this kid wasn't hurting anyone, absolutely no reason to taser him.what if that kid died from it in front of all those fans,in front of children?and for what, the occasional running on the field gimmick?the whole country is rapidly appraching the mentality of total lockdown.the"don't worry, your government will keep you safe,as long as you stay in line."attitude.what next, children playing on the playground past closing will be arrested?no holding hands in public or you will be fined?no laughing out loud at the movies or you will be escorted out?no more ring and run on halloween?the government, local and federal, are clamping down on us.it was slow at first but is excellerating at an even faster pace.we are already in a police state and rapidly approaching the thin line between freedom and socialism.

  • Sketto

Though it's visually shocking to you, I think it's exactly the amount of pain this kid deserves. I think the punishment fit the crime nicely. The reason tasers exist is to quickly stop fools like this. He'll survive.

  • JenChungsBaby

That getting tased made a lot of people laugh, certainly more so than him just running around.

  • Guest

the authorities should look into 'laughing gas guns'. good for violent demonstrations, etc.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

if this kid's father taser him then the father would be in jail for child abuse. Why the hell is it for this dunkin donut cop to taser the kid. Hey KID, be a METS fan, we won't taser you bro!!!!

  • Guest

he may not get out of citi field alive.

    ps i miss shea.

  • bigmikebrooklyn

fuck the cop for tasering the kid. he should get assault with a deadly weapon charges slapped on him. It's a fucking baseball game, obama wasn't on the field, everybody enjoys a little antic action to break up the monotony of a baseball game. are you gonna taser the next puppy that runs out on the field? what about that lady with the ginourmous titties that's always running around out there.

cops and their excessively violent responses are getting super tiresome.

there's some kids riding bikes through times square! get em! there's one of them damn teenage punks runnning around a baseball field, get em! That black guy is reaching for his wallet, get em! that guy that just got married is in a car and talked shit, get em.

    you fucking gorillas stay classy.

  • Amanda Harletsch

    excessive!

besides isn't sport a circus of sorts!?

why take this events so serious, when they're just cheap entertainment!?

  • FakeHipster

    I don't think they're so cheap anymore.

  • Amanda Harletsch

if you think about cost of tickets perhaps.

I was referring to the content value.

  • Guest

    you mean 'shitty'.

  • matty

    Totally excessive.

  • JenCarlsonsLover

good head first slide by the kid after getting tased. pete rose would be proud.

  • grizzzly

    A non-violent action doesn't merit a violent response.

  • kidadik designs

A taser gun is way too lenient for a Phils fan.

  • AYCE

That cop must have had one too many cheesesteaks. Now, if he were on a dirty-water dog diet, he would have been running like Carl Lewis...

  • magicnick

I support open season to taser all Phillies fans and players.

At least it would be fair for the Mets then.

  • pd2009

It's Obama's fault for not spending more on Homeland Security. Slow ass rent-a-cop, what if that kid had a bomb?

  • JenChungsBaby

It wasn't a rent-a-cop, it was a real cop (look at the back of his shirt). And if he had a bomb the cop could have shot him, since he's got a pistol holstered on his right side.

  • NantZE

Just cuz u couldn't catch the guy, u don't just use a taser! Get in shape fatty! If that's the only way u can subdue a 17 yr old, then security techniques need improvement! (along with the whole, "get in shape" thing too!

  • seven

Kid was smart. Probably wanted to do this, and knew he better do it before his 18th birthday.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

This fat old fart with his rolls couldn't run and he unnecessary taser the kid. That isn't funny at all. It definitely spoiled the game after witness some kid zapped for being a kid. This kid's father should sue the stadium. Even it it doesn't hurt much to be zapped it has caused death and it probably crushed the kid's spirit.

  • kazubes

I hope he sues the PPD for crushed spirit good call

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

    thanks

  • FakeHipster

Pretty sure it was recently ruled that cops can't use a taser to enforce compliance. This dude can most likely sue the fuck out of the Phillies and that security guard.

  • Nate

Ridonkulous tasering someone who can slide into home like that. Kid shoulda been carried off the field on shoulders.

  • zincink

so in ten years will they be shooting people?

  • Sketto

Life ain't easy when you're an idiot. Sometimes stupid people gotta get tasered so that they'll learn what the rest of us already know - stay off the fucking field.

  • zincink

I didn't know a random running man was such a threat to society. Meanwhile random man leave smoking bomb in Times Square but that is ok..no problem there..everyone stay cool

  • jibbly

Here's a thought: Just because you can doesn't mean you shouldn - and that goes both ways to both the rent-a-cops and the runner.

What the hell happened to just tackling the guy, fining him, then banning him from the stadium for a couple of years or life?

  • whitecastlerock

This is completely uncalled for. Someone runs onto a baseball field and is then tasered? Are you fucking kidding me??? Where the fuck was he going to go? Aren't there cops assigned to these games to deal with this petty nonsense? Where were these fucking rent a cops when some 22 year old was beaten to death in the parking lot? Why didn't they taser that fat fucking piece of shit that threw up on someone? This is ridiculous-where were the millionaire ballplayers during this? They were probably laughing their asses off. This is disgusting, fuck these rent a cops.

  • jaycjay

"Aren't there cops assigned to these games to deal with this petty nonsense?"

It was a cop. Security guards can't have the word "POLICE" on their shirts.

  • whitecastlerock

Whatever Jay, he was a dick for tasering the kid. Go spread your annoying cheer elsewhere... You are fucking bugging me

  • chuzzlewit

kinda with you on this one.

the assholes chip away at it little by little. day after day.

  • BeehiveHairdresser

It seems as though the cop was putting the other security guards in danger by running around pointing the laser gun like that.

  • notnickwhit

    hahaha - Laser Gun

  • BeehiveHairdresser

I would feel much better if the cop had used a laser cat instead.

  • Kojak

He knew the consequences. If you fail to disobey a direct order from security or a law enforcement official, Prepare to get ZAAAPPPPEEDDD!!!!

    Reminds me of this commercial:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEguQ6PcDZs

  • JenChungsBaby

Oh boo hoo, the poor kid got tasered. He had plenty of chances to stop running and he looked perfectly fine once they got him up on his feet. They should have taser guns at Eagles games too.

  • kafkask

He should have been tasered for wearing that typical young-dude uniform: cargo shorts, sneakers, t-shirt and baseball cap.

He's got a good story out of it, at least.

  • sadpanda

Totally unsportsman-like use of a taser. This is baseball! Run, piggy! If you can't catch a guy running onto the field without using your taser then you really shouldn't be there in the first place. You should be in the gym. On a treadmill. And stay away from those baseball park hotdogs. Sheesh.

  • wobbleSmith

also, someone needs to photoshop that image so the cop's hat is a NY Mets cap.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Kid should sue them because fat man couldn't run and instead taser the kid. It would be different if kid was fighting with them but all he did was run.

  • HBHB

The field should have been appropriately littered with everything the fans could get their hands on. People have been running out onto the field for decades, nobody ever gets hurt and you usually got escorted off by laughing security. 2010.

  • wobbleSmith

i think in order to carry/wield a taser, one should have to be tasered first. just to put things in perspective. this policy would probably also work astoundingly well with handguns.

anyway, that's some bush league stuff, philly.

anyone ever notice that philly has become the go to city for hipsters who can't hack NYC?

  • Isn't that...actually the case? I am pretty sure it is with Corrections Officers-- they get tasered & maced so that they can know if the force is appropriate. That was my impression, from a CO buddy.

  • teacherman

    Taser all the way.

I bet it's a while before anyone else jumps on the field. Before I'm sure it was "run on the field, get on tv, pay a fine." Now it's "run and the field and get tasered."

Gonna be fewer idiots thinking it looks like a good idea.

    Brilliant.

  • Great photo! I bet the guards were saying: "Cool! Can we get those??"

  • billybob

2nd tier cities do second tier things

  • JenChungsBaby

That's the most electrifying thing you'll see in Philly all year.

  • LeLY

    I'm shocked by your pun.

  • Guest

    nice movie poster.

  • Splicer

Yeah, for Planet of the Apes.

  • Tyler

How about "It's Always Gunny in Philadelphia"?

  • colonelcasey

Kudos to the AP photog who got that shot

  • elmaestro

Kudos, indeed. That last moment of freedom before he's dropped and surrounded like an African game animal.

  • Jackson

Yeah... like police in New York would never use excessive force to restrain someone. What world are you living in?

  • Guest

eh, i don't give a shit about cops at all--just commenting on the artistic quality of the pic.

i live in a non-serious world. from a really fucking serious place where people like to assume the worst, i presume? your pic says otherwise, but pics aren't always life, i hear.

  • Think2wice

    "Logan's Run"

  • schadenfreudian mensch

    I would say "Blade Runner."

  • TimSPC

If it were up to me, all Phillies fans would be tasered regardless.

  • John_Matrix

as far as i'm concerned they can use live ammunition against phillies fans.

  • Wza

    Gentlemen, I like your thinking.

    Now, about those Yankee fans...

  • Don't the guards have like nets or something? I mean, it's not like they wouldn't have caught this kid.

  • chuzzlewit

    nets - lol. awesome.

  • What can I say, I've watched a lot of cartoons in my time.

  • chuzzlewit

"I mean, it's not like they wouldn't have caught this meddling kid."

    There.
