Last Night's Action: Hughes Is Huge

  • Yankees 12 Chicago 3: The offense was impressive, but Phil Hughes was really the story of this game. Hughes was dominant over seven shutout innings, striking out six while allowing only four hits. Brett Gardner, Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher all homered to back him up and Mark Teixeira continued his May surge with four hits. Next up is Baltimore and Jeremy Guthrie, the pitcher who has hit nine Yankees in the last two years and plunked Posada just last week.

  • Philadelphia 11 Mets 5: The Phillies are back in first place after taking the series from the Mets and roughing up their ace. Johan Santana imploded in the fourth, allowing nine runs to score with two outs in the inning. That was more than enough for the ancient Jamie Moyer who allowed five runs but still earned his third win of the season.
