You may have noticed a few more cops in the area if you live and work in Manhattan, and you have Saturday's bomb scare and Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to thank for that. The NYPD has planned to flood the island with officers in case of any more dangers, but also to keep up appearances. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says the influx, especially in midtown, will "increase that comfort level [by] adding uniformed patrol," and let tourists walk Times Square without fear. (In the outer boroughs, it's basically Warriors.)
Safety measures around Ahmadinejad have not changed, but security will increase at the airports, with cops checking for car bombs outside terminals and more pat downs and random screenings expected. However, Aspen Institute's Homeland Security Program director Clark Kent Ervin has faith that the city will remain safe, especially since Saturday's bomb scare was thwarted. "The citizen did what he should have done [and] the officer did what he should have done. Everything worked as it should have."
