TLC Hopes LaGuardia Cab Share Becomes Popular

050210cabshare.jpg TLC officials have decided to launch a cab share plan to LaGuardia airport, and hope it catches on better than the program did in Manhattan. Commissioner David Yassky said on Friday, "There is no question that the current group ride locations haven't caught on as we would like...In the meantime, we will put whatever lessons have been learned into planning next steps to expand on the group ride concept." The plan might work better originating from a place where people are actually looking for cabs. One woman at the airport said, "I wouldn't worry about safety. If someone looks weird, I'd say 'no,' obviously."

I don't know why there's any doubt whether this will work. Maybe officials don't want to admit it, but there are always gypsy cars poaching groups of people from the taxi stand at LaGuardia.

If there are already people like me, who are willing to get into an unlicensed mini-van with a bunch of strangers, there have to be a lot more who would choose to share a yellow cab.

Hell, I'd wait a little longer to avoid trips from LGA to Park Slope via the Williamsburg and Manhattan Bridges because the driver is not a professional.
