Ex-Cop Wants Job Back After Sex Doll Gag Blew Up in His Face

043010doll.jpg Staten Island's Mario Buonviaggio, a former NYPD sergeant, wanted to get back at his ex-girlfriend back in 2005. For reasons known only to Buonviaggio, he decided the best way to do this would be to use her credit card and checking account to send porn, lingerie and an inflatable sex doll to her home. But his old flame finally got the last laugh... five years later!

Buonviaggio got fired in January after pleading guilty to the stunt during a departmental trial. Now Buonviaggio, a former undercover narcotics detective who needs spinal-fusion surgery for a line-of-duty injury, is suing to get his old job back, mainly because he needs the insurance. The lawsuit claims he has "constant pain" in his back, feet, left hand and leg from injuries sustained while "protecting the public."

"I'd like to see the Police Department have a heart and do right by this officer," his lawyer tells the Daily News. "It was sophomoric stuff. It was a lovers' quarrel type of thing, and he showed poor judgment." And Buonviaggio, 42, tells the Post, "What's happening is ridiculous. I worked hard for the city, and they fired me for nothing."

don't feel bad for him jennifer.... really he is in the wrong - and so is the mistress.

Who I really feel for is the never mentioned ex-wife - who has to deal with backlash everytime an article like this comes out.

and if he wants to add woman beater to his bag of tricks - I wouldn't be surprised. Something else to add to his list.

oh-keep up with the threats- I feel all warm and fuzzy inside....

    THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man I knew this was going to be STUPID when Staten Island and NYPD appeared in the first sentence.

  • wise one

I love how they say that this happened in 2005. You know what else happened in 2005 - Mario Buonviaggio GOT MARRIED! That's right - this was his mistress they are referring too people. Not just a girlfriend. Everyone says oh - the poor ex-girlfriend... well she was a HOMEWRECKER! But, needless to say the exwife is obviously much better off!

  • robingee

The woman is a homewrecker; what is the man?

  • just saying

This clown was with the NYPD for 17 years. As a NYPD sergeant, he should have been well aware of the consequences of committing credit card fraud. The NYPD is better off without lowlife scum like him.

Besides he'll still get a big NYPD pension and since he left the NYPD with a job-related disability, his pension will be all or mostly tax free.

Gothamist has been crashing my browser left and right lately, so add me to the list of aggravated readers!

@JDS: "The lawsuit in his back, feet, left hand and leg from injuries sustained while "protecting the public." What????

  • Tpyo

Sorry about the double posting, but all the ads and Twitter/Facebook/whatever mouse-over issues on Gothamist have been crashing my netbook lately. When I was just trying to post a single comment, my computer crashed 5 times!! Fortunately, no other website gives me these problems.

  • Tpyo

    Make that "browser" not "computer."

  • We're aware of the issues, thanks, and we're trying to resolve them. Hopefully new tags for the ads will help.

  • John Del Signore

There was a broken link code there. Fixed, thanks.

  • Rocknrope

The lawsuit in his back, feet, left hand and leg from injuries sustained while "protecting the public."

    Hah?

  • kazubes

Ok sorry side tracking, but are these stupid Harry Brown banners giving anyone else browser lag when the page is loading up?

  • We're working with the agency on getting replacement ads that will hopefully improve site performance.

As far as adblock goes, here's a well reasoned statement against it: http://bit.ly/coezTe. It is how we pay to run the site, after all.

  • jaycjay

    And from that well-reasoned argument:

"I am very proud of the fact that we routinely talk to you guys in our feedback forum about the quality of our ads. I have proven over 12 years that we will fight on the behalf of readers whenever we can... We turn down offers every month for [intrusive] advertising like that out of respect for you guys."

I like two-way streets. Seems unlikely that there'd be much reason to think about blocking ads on that guy's site.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

but you aren't part of gothamist so why the fuck are you responding? And shame on you for promoting Ringling Brothers Circus that abuses elephants and killed baby elephants. stop with the 3rd world mentality

  • personagratin

So immediately removing the ad until you get the doesn't-make-your-computer-suck version isn't an option? I know the money's important, but come on!

  • Tpyo

Add me to the list of aggravated readers. Gothamist has been crashing my browser right and left lately.

@ JDS: "The lawsuit in his back, feet, left hand and leg from injuries sustained while "protecting the public." Was he shot with lawsuits while on the job?!?

  • Armchair_warrior

don't be a jackass and run adblock on these sites, it gets paid by advertisers. how else they keep running the site?
