Concerns Over Immigrant Attacks In Staten Island

042810sihc.jpg After one Mexican immigrant was attacked with a baseball bat in Port Richmond a few weeks ago, NY1 reports that two other Mexican men were attacked in the same way this past month, one on Clove Road on April 10th and the other on Castleton Avenue this past Sunday. Project Hospitality spokesman Terry Troia said, "You ask the question, why this level of violence? Why are Mexicans being targeted? Is this anti-immigrant, is this bias against Mexicans?...it's instilled fear in the community." Police don't believe the attacks are connected, and are only calling the attack against Rodolfo Olmedo a hate crime since racial slurs were not used in the other two attacks.

immigrants: work harder, and in some cases are better educated than locals... that is the menace.

  • It isn't fair to speculate on the motivations of this isolated incident. To extend it to larger issues of race-related violence, immigration, etc. is not honest because we do not know yet exactly why this happened.

The only thing we know for sure is that there were two extremely brutal and similar acts of violence against Hispanics that suggest a trend of increased violence against Hispanic men in Staten Island.

They should pass a law whereby if a police officer suspects that you are from Staten Island then he/she is allowed to pull you over based solely upon that suspicion.

    I blame Arizona.
