Yesterday, around 11:30 a.m., a 33-year-old man was shot in the face at Avenue D and East 3rd Street in the East Village. Bahiem Covington was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital. A crossing guard, who left the corner for a bathroom break, told the Daily News, "I went inside and heard a shot. When I came out people were running." The News reports that Covington, had "prior arrests for assault and criminal possession of a weapon"; his sister said, "He was a sweet guy... a peacemaker. He wasn't into violence." And according to the Post, police took two men into custody at the scene while two others fled.
