Shake Shack's Peanut Butter Bacon Burger Teases, Vanishes

Last week the Upper West Side Shake Shack sold 42 of their limited-edition peanut butter and bacon burgers. By 7:45 p.m. on Saturday they had already sold more than 300 and there was a line around the block, reports the Westside Independent. And yet, despite all that consumer enthusiasm, Shake Shack has no plans to add the item to the menu and won't offer it again for "a long, long time," according to manager Mark Rosati.

"People are really coming out and really, really digging it," Rosati tells Westside Independent. "They’re calling up their friends and saying 'you’ve got to come try this.'" But popular demand apparently means nothing to Shake Shack. The only reason the burger ever appeared in the first place was because Shake Shack had lots of "special bacon" left over from a pancake and custard breakfast deal. Rosati attributes the idea to a restaurant in Missouri called "The Wheel Inn Drive-In." But before you start your road trip, be advised that the roadside landmark (famous for their "Goober Burger") was closed forever in 2007 for the sake of a highway expansion. If you really want this crazy burger, you're probably going to have to make it yourself.

God forbid anyone learn how to cook a burger and some bacon themselves. I've made this delectable treat for years, ever since my high school economics teacher introduced it to us at a barbecue. There are a couple places in Kansas City to get this (Tomfooleries is the only one I can recall off the top of my head). It simply consists of a burger, bacon, and peanut butter as condiment.

probably a good move. the risk of law suits from surviving family members is too high.

Wheel Inn closed in Sedalia, Mo when they built the highway. But it reopened! http://www.sedaliademocrat.com/news/wheel-2712-inn-clark.html

Shake Shack had an admirable imitation, even though I miss my Guberburgers...

or, you could just forgo the risk of turning on that old oven (after all, what are you going to do with all those liquor bottles?) and head on down to yo mama's bar & grill in new orleans. their peanut butter bacon burger has been around for a while and is a permanent fixture on the menu. man oh man is it delicious.

special bacon in other words spoiled, the peanut butter was used to hide the rancid taste.

I was there at 7:42pm, and technically, the line was around the block, but since Shake Shack is right on the corner, it really wasn't THAT long, thanks to the chill that came up that evening.

Still, the burger was AMAZING. They should add it to the menu permanently because I definitely would treat myself to it every once in a while, whereas normally, I walk past the line at the MSP Shake Shack and laugh to myself.
