Man Shot At Street Fest Sues NYPD For Not Stopping Bullets

At first glance, Matthew Ortiz's lawsuit makes sense: He was shot in the leg at an Italian street festival in Ridgewood back in 2008, and wants the NYPD to pay up. But the thing is, the police didn't shoot Ortiz; he caught a bullet from random gunfire in the crowd. Nevertheless, his lawyer says the cops, not the perps, are to blame. "There were a number of mini-riots, and the police presence was practically nonexistent," attorney David Harrison tells the Post. "If stuff going on gets worse and worse... it's negligence. " If Ortiz cashes in, expect future lawsuits against the NYPD for failing to save New Yorkers from such dangers as flying pillows.

If he wants to sue NYC , sue them for not allowing you to own a firearm as garunteed by the 2nd amendment. And since you cannot own a firearm that you have to rely on the police to protect you, even though they are not required to.

I dunno. The NYPDs primary responsibility is law enforcement so they should have been preventing someone from discharging a weapon. Why else are they there to provide security at large events?

They are here to protect and serve and they did neither.

he should sue god for not protecting him from the bullet while he is at it for also not giving him a set of ethics or being rich to begin with or a set of brains to go to college to get a good job instead of relying on these type of law suits.
