NYPD Won't Release Serial Killer's Photos

042010alcala.jpg The NYPD is refusing to make photos taken by the "Dating Game Killer" Rodney Alcala of his victims public. They were sent by the Huntington Beach Police, hoping the NYPD could help find some of the victims by posting them online to be identified by family members or the women themselves. However, NYPD spokesman Inspector Edward Mullen would not say whether or not the police would release the photos, only that the "Cold Case Squad is reviewing them." Police found over 1,000 photos in a storage locker when they arrested Alcala in 1979; he was convicted of murder in California earlier this year and is currently on death row.

THANK YOU. I was just about to post that. Not only that, but the explanation of how these photos differed from the ones that were already released online would have been swell too.

Headline: "NYPD Won't Release Serial Killer's Photos."

Article: "NYPD spokesman Inspector Edward Mullen would not say whether or not the police would release the photos."

I can understand at newspapers when a headline contradicts the actual article, because editors write the headlines so may make a mistake. But don't you guys write your own headlines?
