Last Night's Action: Mets Score on Vulnerable Cubs Pen

2008_12_metslogo.jpg The Mets opened a four-game series against the Cubs Monday night by getting things off right, winning 6-1. New York scored 5 runs in the 7th inning, which featured a two-run home run by Angel Pagan. The game was also the Major League debut of Mets 1st baseman Ike Davis. Davis had two singles on the night and an RBI during the team's 7th inning rally. Jonathon Niese pitched into the 6th inning, but was unable to pick up his first win of the season.

"I like Ike". Alright the kid got 2 hits and an RBI but Met fans are sounding like he's the second coming. He seems like a good kid. But if you build up all these expectations and the kid fails for some reason, goes into a slump (which is inevitable), makes a slew of errors, say, they'll be crucifying him. The media of course is doing it to sell advertisements, fueling this latest madness. Lay off. Let the kid develop. This wouldn't be the first time things like this have happened for the Mets. Big expectations and then the fans run the guy out of town when he doesn't match their expectations . . .

Don't do it. Don't make yourself vulnerable. Yes, you want to believe, but they're just gonna break your heart.
