Pols Plan More Fees on New Yorkers to Close State Deficit

In an attempt to close the budget gap, lawmakers are considering two new plans to raise fees on New Yorkers. The plan proposes raising the fees on buying cars and taking out a mortgage. "These two proposals are being seriously considered by us," Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Martin Dilan told the Daily News.

The proposal would raise vehicle document fees from the $75 limit to as much as $175, which could raise about $25 million for the state. It would also raise the mortgage recording tax by 20 cents for every $1,000, which could raise $230 million. Though the plan will probably be met with its fair share of criticism, it may go over better than the proposed taxes on cigarettes, alcohol and soda.

State Republicans are not happy with any of these proposals, with a spokesman for Sen. Dean Skelos saying, "After promising not to, Senate Democrats are once again itching to raise taxes." But Martin Dilan believes "these two proposals would be of least harm."

    Fuck these assholes!

Learn how to balance a fucking budget!

If they would only institute a tax on corrupt politicians we could balance the budget overnight.

  • I don't know about you, but I'm totally sick of hearing this shite about budget shortfalls, new nickle and dime taxes on the masses and the subsequent scaling back of services.

Why won't somebody propose a tax on the $20 billion awarded as Wall Sreet bonuses last year? If that is not palatable, how about making the elite pay income tax rates instead of capital gains tax rates? That alone would provide most of the revenue that is needed to support the infrastructure.

Of course, most of the elite don't pay local taxes, ride buses or subways, or send their kids to public schools so why should they care about what happens to us peons?

It's remarkable how taxes on Wall Street trading are a non-starter but adding more fees (taxes) on working people is always the rage. This is what comes of a system that rewards wealth with political power.

I noticed the state instituted those awful new license plates without any fanfare. Safety reasons, my ass. Why aren't they just honest and say it's an arbitrary money grab. Maybe people would be less pissed off about it. Well, probably not. . .

Ah great, compensating for their incompetence by reaching deeper into our pockets. Huzzah!

  • Bottomless Chips

These idiots couldn't figure out how to efficiently spend the record revenues during the good times, now we're going to bend over and give them more in a time of 10% unemployment?

The taxpayers are the worst negotiators ever. What other business would one side acquiesce to these ridiculous deals? The way we can all win is by throwing them out of Albany and putting true fiscal conservatives in there. Too bad those are hard to come by...
