Chuck Schumer's Sandwich Needs More Pickles

041810pickles.jpg Chuck Schumer clearly isn't on board with that whole salt reduction initiative if his signature lunch sandwich is any indication. Known as the "Schumwich" around his office, the beast consists of roast beef, banana peppers, pickled jalapeños, extra onions, extra tomatoes, two layers of pickles, mayonnaise and mustard on italian bread. Under no circumstances must there be lettuce, and Schumer has been known to jump down throats if there aren't enough pickles.

His trick to ensuring the proper pickle-to-everything-else ratio is making sure aides ask for extra pickles only after the first layer of pickles is down. "Did you watch them put them on, or did you not focus on it?," he has demanded of aides if the concoction isn't bursting with briney goodness. He also uses the same trick to make sure there are enough tomatoes and onion. Though he said he does try to pack lunch, he told the Post the Subway sandwich is "one of my true guilty pleasures." It's also apparently been catching on at the office. "It's now my favorite sandwich," said former aide Sam Schaeffer. The sub ends up costing $6.75 at Subway, though with enough demand it could become a "Five Dollar Footlong." Create the demand; order one today!

I thought those overpaid government-payroll workers didn't earn their keep, but now I understand the enormous responsibility of keeping Picklepuss happy.
