Phillies Fan Allegedly Forced Himself to Vomit on Young Girl

Top this one, rowdy Yankees fans: A New Jersey man has raised the bar on boorishness by intentionally vomiting on an 11-year-old girl in the stands during Wednesday night's Phillies-Nationals game, police say. Clemmens allegedly began trying to force himself to vomit on off-duty police captain Michael Vangelo and his family after his buddy was ejected from the stadium for unruly behavior. Vangelo says he saw Clemmens shove his fingers down his throat, causing him to vomit on his daughter. "It was the most vile, disgusting thing I've ever seen," said Vangelo, "and I've been a cop for 20 years."

The trouble started right in the first inning, when Clemmens and his buddy, who were seated directly behind Vangelo's family, began yelling obscenities. After Vangelo's 15-year-old daughter asked them to cut out the cursing, they quieted down for... a little while. "They started back up," Vangelo tells Philly.com "One guy started spitting . . . first it landed on the back of my daughter's chair. Then it landed on her hooded sweatshirt." Containing his rage with the patience of a saint, Vangelo informed an usher, and Clemmens's companion was bounced. But of course he had to kick it up a notch. Okay, several notches.

After announcing that he was going to be sick, Vangelo says Clemmens "leaned over and put two fingers down his throat... and started vomiting on us." He then repeatdly punched the cop in the head. Still, Vangelo did not retaliate, explaining, "I kept thinking, 'If I get arrested, my kids will be alone here.'" Clemmens, of Cherry Hill, NJ, was arrested (allegedly vomiting more on one of the cops) and charged with simple assault, aggravated assault, harassment, resisting arrest and related offenses. His Phillies went on to win 14 to 7.

We, in Philly throw snowballs at people, we don't throw up on people. This dude is a douche! Don't blame our teams, don't blame our city. Blame the fat NJ jerk-off who actually puked on that poor family.

  • ribaldry

I BARF UP A LITTLE IN MY MOUTH ANYTIME I EVEN LOOK AT A PIG

  • choooch

ugh, if someone uses the word EPIC again i think im gonna vomit.

  • noir_et_blanc

did not retaliate, eh? so who punched that dude in the eye? lol.

  • ozik

The solution is for sports to not have fans.

  • Mondiggy

Please remember that this pig is from NEW JERSEY. So for those of you who blame the city itself, that's just ignorant.

  • Thundernuts

Yes, but Philly is like a contagious disease. Go there a few days and you morph into a mindless coconut.

  • PKinNYC

    South Jersey...Philly...same damn thing.

  • ozik

The solution to this situation is to not serve alcohol at sports events.

  • detective jarvis

    r u fucking serious?

  • robingee

The solution is to find out where that dude gets his hair done! It's bouncin and behavin!

  • longacre

The solution is to enclose each fan in a protective bubble so if one vomits, he/she only vomits on himself and not on other fans.

  • theevilone

The solution is for Philly not to have teams.

  • ozik

The solution to this problem is to not have sporting events.

  • Guest

Don't blame sports just because some fans are complete idiots.

  • hotstepper

the solution is to refrain from purposely vomiting on others.

  • Mookie Wilson

The solution to the problem is to not go to Philadelphia.

  • NannyState

No, the solution is to not allow 11 year old girls at sports events.

  • Splicer

You mean I need one more reason to hate Philadelphians? I suppose it's a cultural thing to throw up on people --- assuming baboons have a culture.

  • just saying

"Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

    (Quote from movie ANIMAL HOUSE)

  • detective jarvis

writing "quote from the movie animal house" completely ruined the whole quote

  • what_a_dick

    wow, what a dick

  • Billiamsburg

what a world class city! lollllllz

  • fuboy

Well, there is the 'Resisted arrest' charge, which is the polite way for a cop to say "We beat him senseless before booking him".

In any case, he's a piece of sh*t.

  • ozik

The policeman was afraid of getting arrested? Really? Sure he wasn't in his own town, but that makes me wonder if this is partially true.

    Honestly, which seems more likely:

    A. A disgruntled rowdy sticks his fingers down his own throat in order to vomit on a policeman's family

    or

    B. A drunken rowdy accidentally vomits all over a policeman's family and gets punched several times, then is arrested for his trouble.

  • Buddy Hinton

Or maybe there was no vomit and the off-duty policemen beat him up for spitting in the general vicinity of his daughter and then changed that to vomited directly on his daughter to avoid arrest. How is the drunk guy going to prove it wasn't vomit (if it wasn't) or that it didn't hit the daughter (if it didn't)?

or maybe there was no spit and no vomit and the offduty policemen beat him up just for being drunk and rude.

Accidental vomiting seems like the likeliest possibility, but there are other plausible possibilities. The "official story" seems like the least likely possibility.

Shame on the Gothamist for not interviewing the defendant and getting his side of the story.

  • detective jarvis

    jesus christ shut up

  • Politburo

Gotta say you raise a good point. When I read the account, I have to say I doubt that the victim remained as cool as he describes.

FWIW, it took Philadelphia over 2 months to indict an off-duty cop for what was an obvious murder, witnessed by dozens.

  • Tom

Either way, this guy's a piece of crap and deserves whatever he gets and then some.

  • ozik

Piece of crap why? He's a typical sports fan up to the point where his buddy was ejected, then it's the family's word as to what he did.

If someone barfed on me I'd want to punch him in the face and then tell lies to get him in trouble, that's my point.

  • robingee

The family's word? There was no one else there?

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

No wonder Michael Vick, dog torturer, was welcome in Philly

  • Guest

That's about the only thing you've ever said that I agree with.

  • ElleCat

    Says a Cowboys fan.

(I figure if you've lived within 2 miles of Jerry Jones' Palace, you got the right to talk a little shit.)

  • Guest

Funny thing is that I've never hated the Eagles or Giants. The Redskins are a different story though. They can burn in hell.

  • NannyState

I swear, the illegitimate offspring of Donald Trump are nothing but trouble.

  • CR

Hey Gothamist - No mention of "Barf-o-rama"? You guys have brought it up like 8 times recently...

  • Spirit of 76

He certainly looks like people would call him Lardass.

  • TimSPC

Instead of jail time, the father should get to beat the shit out of this guy every day for five years.

  • Guest

Proving once again how horrible PA teams' fans are.

  • valeriob

    Seriously, epic shiner!

  • nicemarmot

Yeah, who punched him? Great shiner.

  • JenChungsBaby

The Eagles immediately made him captain of their fan club.

  • LB

    Eagle hater !

  • hotstepper

holy mother of god. projectile vomiting as a weapon? now i've officially heard everything.
