NY State May Ditch "Race To The Top" Bid

2010_04_moneywindow.jpg Weeks after NY State lost out on the first round of "Race to the Top" federal education funding, it seems unlikely officials will try again. Apparently the state doesn't have its act together to fight for potentially hundreds of millions of dollars: Merryl Tisch, the NYS Board of Regents chancellor, said, "We will not submit an application that we do not believe is going to be competitive" and Governor Paterson told NY1, "Right now, I am trying to get legislature to pass a budget. They were very resistant to the whole 'Race To The Top' concept." A few weeks ago, the city was rumored to be considering a solo "Race to the Top" bid.

It's idiotic. Name one city with more students at more high schools and colleges who go on to more important roles in the private and public sectors than NYC? Why is the Big Apple 'competing' for funding with Pig's Knuckle, Tennessee? The President knows NYC's importance, and has known it since he attended Columbia. Enough games.

More like a race to the BOTTOM, AMIRITE?

Also, if a Republican administration concocted a scheme like this where states have to put on a dog and pony show to get education money, there would be riots.
