Man Charged With Fatally Punching 7-Month-Old Son

2010_04_xiah.jpg The Queens DA's Office announced that Larry Greene, 20, was charged with second-degree murder for allegedly punching and causing the death of his seven-month-old son Xiah. Greene, who had been babysitting his son, brought the unconscious baby to the New York Hospital Queens on Tueday. The child was pronounced dead and Green initially said he dropped the baby, but later admitted that he punched Xiah in the chest because he had been crying. Prosecutors also say that he told Xiah to "toughen up" and that Greene was allegedly upset because the baby seemed to like his mother more.

The ME's office found numerous injuries, including "cluster of five bruises on his chest consistent with knuckle marks." DA Richard Brown said, “This is, sadly, the ninth incident that we have seen in Queens County within the last five months in which a caregiver is accused of violently assaulting and, or, killing a child, and it ironically comes right on the heels of April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The fragility of a small child cannot be emphasized enough. There is no excuse for these senseless attacks. The defendants in these cases must be severely punished."

DA Brown's office also said that an eight-month-old boy, Mario Patrice, died on April 9, after being admitted to Schneider Children’s Hospital with Shaken Baby Syndrome on April 5. Mario had been kept on life support, and organs were donated. The boy's father Saul Cortez was charged with first-degree assault, but now the charges will be upgraded.

The Queens DA's office also detailed the seven other horrible incidents where children were victimized—a 5-year-old's skull was fractured after allegedly being shoved by his mother's boyfriend, 19-month-old was allegedly killed by her mother's boyfriend, a 13-week-old suffered brutal injuries (17 fractured ribs, a lacerated liver) allegedly at the hands of her father, and more (PDF).

Sorry to say this, but that angelic looking innocent kid is most likely now in a FAR better place than the miserable life he would have had w/ these stupid lowlifes. Violence as a solution to everyday problems is the only thing they know. RIP Xiah.

As long as some cultures continue to believe corporal punishment is a proper way to discipline children, this will be the result.

    EXACTLY.

The problem is, all fathers should be issued a

hearing protector, when they have a baby.

I don't have a baby yet, but I wanted to kill

all those crying babies around me.

Now I have a hearing protector, like those the

guys at the airport deck wears.

They block out 80% of the unbearable noise.

  • Trilby16

They might also need to be issued a brain and a heart.

Babies most often cry because they have a need or some discomfort so it is not enough to block out their cries.

One thing that has always disturbed me is how ghetto-type people-- of any race-- often treat even very little kids like miniature adults, or miniature versions of themselves.

Admonishing a seventh-month-old as if he can understand English or the concept of toughening up is a pretty good example of that.

I heard on the news yesterday that he was caring for the baby because the boy's 17-year-old mother was at school. This is one of the 9,999 reasons that children shouldn't have children. People that young in today's society seem to lack the reasoning skills needed to be a parent. Just to be clear, I'm placing the blame for this child's death 100% dad (didn't want that the be unclear), but think that both of them were too immature (financially, emotionally, intellectually, etc.) to have a baby.

Sigh. You should really read some research on teenage parenting before making statements based on your own, personal theoretical opinion of yourself as a teen parent. Really.

And some information on making casual statements where you mean correlation. And even then, it's more complex than being about his age.

Age is only one out of many factors why this guy wasn't fit to be a parent. I had a kid at very young age, went on to finish college, and now work full-time and raise my child as a single parent. One reason why I've been able to make the transition is having a supportive network of people who helped me - something many young parents lacks. But there are still many people like me who had children young and do our job, the same way there are abusive parents who had kids later in life. I'm not discounting age and maturity entirely, I'm just saying it's not the whole picture.

For someone to physically abuse a baby, there is without a doubt a serious, deep-seated issue - most likely a history of that person being abused by parents as well. The average person simply doesn't do this. This guy is psychotic.

  • Boogie Down

Of course. I didn't mean to offend you and hope you didn't take it that way. I had a couple of friends who had children when they were young too and they went on to be quite successful. However, I think that we can both agree that having a child at such a young age, without any education to speak of, is going to make life a lot harder for the parent and child (but, thankfully, the are exceptions). The other issue is that young people tend to be a lot more impulsive than adults, so things like shaking or hitting the baby are much more common because the parent is easily frustrated and is less likely to place a moment between the action and reaction. A history of the abuser being abused also plays a major factor because this is what the person thought of as "normal" during the formative years.

I have a couple of friends in their late 30s who had their first child a couple of years ago. While they love their child to death, they also acknowledge how difficult it has been. I can't imagine dealing with such a major responsibility as a teenaged kid. That being said, I have the utmost respect for those who do it successfully.

"Greene was allegedly upset because the baby seemed to like his mother more."

Maybe the jury will go easier on him because he's obviously retarded.

  • evbo

7 months old & he wanted the kid to "toughen up." I'm gonna be sick.

Lock this piss-poor motherfucking excuse for a human up & throw away the key.

  • virgilstarkwell

    just kill him.

  • Clarice City

The state won't sterilize baby killers/beaters. But, fortunately the gentlemen in 'gen pop' will be more than happy to rip the nuts off this guy in the name of justice.

  • AYCE

Sterilizing scum like this would be doing them a favor...why give them the pleasure to be able to stick their warped penises anywhere without recourse? (Not that they already don't obviously). I say go back to the medieval days of good 'ol castration.
