Yesterday another yellow cab met its fate, becoming engulfed in a fireball right across from a school in Chelsea that students were being dismissed from. One witness told the Post, "I never saw such flames! The fire must have been 8 to 10 feet high."
Luckily no one was injured—the cab was empty and had been parked at 9th Avenue and 27th Street since the driver had noticed the engine was smoldering. The FDNY was already on the scene before it burst into flames and had shut down the surrounding area—sending kids at P.S. 33 through a side door to exit.
According to witnesses, the driver "was standing there, just staring at it. He was dumbfounded; he didn't say a thing" (the scene did look pretty intense!). The fire is currently under investigation.
