Bloomberg Rated Best Mayor in 30 Years

041410bloomberg.jpg According to a Marist Poll, New Yorkers may like Bloomberg more than they let on. The survey [PDF] says, "a plurality of registered voters citywide—38%—say Bloomberg has been the best mayor for New York City in three decades," and 56% of New Yorkers think he is doing well in office (down from his January 69% ratings). So what were the criteria?

The poll shows that 53% of residents believe that quality of life has gotten better or stayed good in the city since Bloomberg took office the third time around, saying they feel secure and that the city is cleaner. But the Mayor didn't get off scot-free, as New Yorkers are still pissed about the economy and the MTA. 46% believe the quality of the city’s subways and buses have deteriorated, and 67% believe the economy has gotten worse during his third term. Marist Institute Director Dr. Lee M. Miringoff said, “Mayor Bloomberg has been able to keep his approval rating intact despite governing during difficult economic times. Compared with his predecessors, so is his legacy.”

Mayor Rudy Giuliani came in second place, with 31% of residents thinking he was the best mayor. Ed Koch got 15%, David Dinkins received 9%, and 7% were simply unsure who their favorite mayor was. Bloomberg also probably got high rankings for his masterful puns. He recently tweeted, "MB hosts Greek reception at Gracie. Perfect timing too - with Clash of the Titans in theaters and Yankee Stadium cheering for a 'Homer!'"

Giuliani should be #1. He made Bloomberg's success possible.

Hey giuliani fan, how many lives did giuliani save on sep 11 2001, or how many planes did he stop from crashing into buildings or crashing to the ground? Im just curious because i always hear you gooliani meat lovers call him the 9/11 hero

  • Like I asked on another post, is it possible to remove or impeach a NYC mayor?

  • horseplay

Homeless % is way up, as well as rent, foreclosures, transportation hikes, new yorkers leaving NY is up because most people cant keep up with bloomturd's unaffordable rich and lavish nyc he has created. My question to all of you bloomturd meat lovers, when are the real approval ratings going to get released? Not interested in the current one he's paying for.

  • bucephalus

New York is expensive because it's an extremely popular place to live.

Also, love that you managed to bring up "meat lovers" in your post.

Through creative management of taxpayer money, 2 brand new stadiums were built for the Yankees and Mets. The areas around these new stadiums have been revitalized, new jobs and sprawling parks everywhere. At the conclusion of his third term, another epic arena will be ready in Brooklyn for the Nets. This city doesn't need that many firehouses open, the crime rate is so low we don't need that many police officers. What this city needed were brand new stadiums for professional sports teams! He is the greatest Mayor ever! Three more terms! Three more terms! Three more terms!

Is that Eau du Sarcasm you're wearing today?

  • whitecastlerock

I wear this stench every day

It's about progress, not politics. He's going to take on the MTA. When he sees rooftops in Brooklyn, he sees solar panels. He's going to create jobs-stick up for the middle class...

because giuliani went on a lock em up spree. and bloomberg is on a homeless record spree. soon he'll be coming for you. he already is. the more you peons interact with any city agency, the more he'll get you. either by hook or by crook. He has your number. did you really thick that ticket you got would be gone from their database?

  • MrManhattan

You know if you use TWO layers of tinfoil, they won't be able to read your mind.

  • JacqueMehoff

they don't have to, I can read theirs.

As a New Yorker old enough to remember "Ford to City: Drop Dead", I think the most impressive thing about Bloomberg's success, in contrast to Giuliani's is that it was (until a year ago), achieved under an Anti-City Republican National administration.

Giuliani had the Luxury of administering New York during the Clinton administration, when urban problems were addressed by Washington, Especially the increase in police as the result of the C.O.P.S. program, as well as the overall improvement in the economy when it was under rational leadership. Bloomberg has, in contrast, been expected to maintain "Giuliani's" achievements while federal support has fallen away and the economy was systematically dismantled Under Bush.

    Interesting point.

  • How Ya Doin

Very well said, and I completely agree.

Now enter felix and cxb to spout some outlandish nonsense....

  • Jamie McDonald

Was just about to say, where's cxb when you need him? (My guess: in the depressive phase of a manic-depressive episode.)

  • How Ya Doin

lol indeed, he was out in full force last week, but has been conspicuously absent despite the bloomberg news. not that bloomberg needs to be brought up for people to start yelling & screaming about how awful he is.

  • jibbly

JDS kicked his ass out from what I read.

  • Jamie McDonald

Oh nice, where'd you see that? Were there many lols involved?

  • jibbly

Think it was last week or the week before? Someone mentioned that cxb should be all over the comments section and JDS chimed in by quoting Godfather or Goodfellas or something indicating that cxb was banned.
