Video: NYC Bike Messengers in Death Defying Action
Speaking of bike messengers doing intense things like breaking windows of limos with their bare hands, here's more video of young messengers racing around NYC streets—and sometimes on sidewalks and highways! Intercut with the high-speed action shots (by the guy who did Empire) are short interviews with these characters, who [SPOILER!] share stories about their various accidents, such as: "I broke my ribs and bruised my spleen. It wasn't cool pissing blood for three days." Oh, and: "I was in the hospital for a couple weeks, broke my jaw in three places... destroyed the trigeminal nerve in my face. I can't feel the right side of my face for the rest of my life, but it doesn't matter. I still ride. I surf traffic!"
Wow ! I would never attempt 97% of any of those actions there pulling in the video !

come three feet between me and my 3 yr old on the sidewalk and your ending up on your face. A simple light tap to the bike will send them flying.
funny thing is I was a messenger, racer for years. the rise in popularity of bicycling has produced a bunch of rude people. And.. none of these guys are actual messengers.

i do find it very reckless for others and not just the rider. myself i am very seldom on the sidewalk and if i am i do not travel at that speed (or one wheel). i agree that the popularity in bike culture has risen and though i have only been a messenger for 5 years fall into that more reckless generation. i try very hard to only endanger myself. i am very vocal about people venturing onto the street to walk or in the bike paths. i have probably said choice words to you at one point or another. i think it only fair.

Many ways to be a predator and as Dr.Karl Meninger
said back in the 1930's in a book "Man against himself"
many ways to have little suicides till the big "accidental
mistake suicide" comes along.

Yeah, and when knuckleheads like these are in the hospital for "a coupla weeks", who pays? If not Workmens' Comp (doubtful), or Medicaid, the hospital eats the tab, goes for the minimal Hill-Burton, winds up having to close. If any contact with a motor vehicle, No-Fault and everybody's rates go up. Like to see them post about who pays the tab for injuries sustained by reckless behaviour.

I'd bet a lot of those kids are still mooching off their folks, and have better insurance than I do.

i am a NYC messenger and i will agree we do ride recklessly and with wild abandon. and in fact most of use are from another city country or "country ass town". i forget my point, oh thats right your all a bunch of idiots! i mean really you spend your time trash talking about people making a living.... tisk tisk tisk. as for most of that footage it is from a promotional movie and obviously it will be more reckless and wild.
kazubes
hey are you the kid with the fake teeth in the video?
Sean
nope, i'm country

Bored Iowa kids should just go back home and set up some obstacle corses if they like danger all that much. What kind of dickhead goes onto a highway on a bicycle and cuts across 3 lanes of traffic?

Real bike messengers in the city are not all white, hipster grungy types with reckless abandon for their own safety popping wheelies on the sidewalk like they're hot shit riding like jerks.

These turds should be denied any sort of health and/or life insurance.

You got shocks...pegs...LUCKY!

Wow...this makes me really angry. I ride a bike to work and actually obey things like you know red lights and traffic laws...Try to stay in the bike path if there is one and generally avoid confrontations. The only problem I've ever had is with a guy who ran a red light when it was my right of way who then tried to run me off the road...but seriously...no wonder people hate bikers...these people are assholes. Just ride like a normal F*ing human being....that way the rest of us don't get tagged with the stigma of being law breakers.
