Cops Investigate Attacks Targeting Asian Women In L.E.S.

2010_04_survvidatles.jpg The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating five different attacks on Asian women in the Lower East Side. The victims are ages 50-71 and WCBS 2 reports, "Police say the five assaults on Asian women took place over the last ten days within a nine-block area right near the Williamsburg Bridge."

Three of the attacks occurred at the Baruch Houses, while another was at the Gompers Houses and another on Broadway near City Hall. Police, who have released surveillance video from the first attack, say that three men and two women are wanted for questioning: According to WABC 7, "They typically wait in the lobbies of the apartment complexes for their prey. They surround the victims, and the young women beat them with their hands and fists while the young men watch. No money has been taken in the attacks, and there has been no prior contact between the victims and their attackers, according to investigators."

it's never a hate crime when you attack asian people

  • ocm123

Yeah, other than Rutgers and Laguardia Houses, Baruch Houses is probably the most crime ridden project south of Harlem in Manhattan.

You'd think that there would have been someone who would have posted the "all crimes are hate crimes" post by now, though I guess since the victims are asian women, its given an exception from the usual crimes against black and hispanic men.

ny1 mentions the words, "suspected bias crime." 5 years ago, every form of the media was afraid to label it such.

hew... i guess it's about time.

they're finally learning that anyone has the capabilities to hate a particular group based on looks.

    ha ha ha

Your point is reasonable and probably correct, until...

How is that funny or awesome? Fuck you.

    sarcasm, friend.

  • onevalianteffort

Wow, the suspects are targeting Asian women. They are not taking their money but rather just assaulting them. I smell a hate crime.

Stop the hate, don't beat on any Asian except John Liu who lied about working in a sweat shop.

  • schadenfreudian mensch

He didn't lie. He meant sweet shop. He just mispronounced.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

    ah, thanks for the clarification.

Anything missing from the two linked news reports? Let's see, the suspects are described as young, three males and two females ... what else is known about them but not mentioned?

  • JenChungsBaby

The Post has video. The perps are....brace yourselves...BLACK! Who would've thunk it?

    omg! how racist! (sarcasm intended*)

*look below at my comment 13 for mentioning "sarcasm intended", although this may water down the actual sarcasm.

I dunno man it's perfectly fine to mention that the victims are Asian but not that other thing, for some reason.

    Fucking animals.

  • schadenfreudian mensch

They're afraid they might hurt their feelings if they mention the other thing.

  • Guest

fear of hurting the assailants' feelings by their physical descriptions, such as race? hahaha

    way to go backwards. woo-hoo.

  • schadenfreudian mensch

Of course, I mean once you start to social promote kids to the next grade even though they're not ready because you don't want to hurt their feelings for being dumb why stop there. My advice to those teachers if the kids aren't up to snuff:

"we don't want to hurt their feelings, whatever they do--if they beat up, commit murder, r*pe, etc. we'll protect their race if it's the end of the universe. even time."
