Is Max Weinberg Leaving Conan For... Leno?!

Et tu, Weinberg? It appears Conan O'Brien's longtime bandleader, Max Weinberg, may be crossing the late night war battle lines and joining Team Leno! According to Movieline "Weinberg recently made overtures to Leno about joining the new Tonight Show as Leno’s bandleader. He’d be replacing Kevin Eubanks, who announced in February that he had plans to leave the show." The shocking news may be welcome to those on the inside; allegedly he wasn't a favorite amongst staffers. Why's that? "When O’Brien’s show was still located in New York, Weinberg would send interns to do gardening work at his house on the New Jersey shore." Make a note of it, Leno interns.

I was an intern at Conan years ago. I remember when Andy left, the show made a tribute video with all of Andy's best moments. Max, being the arrogant jerk he is, got upset by this because the show did not make a video of his "funniest" moments...even though he was going nowhere. I remember the other intern who was helping with this said it was very hard to find Max's "funny" moments. Also, unlike everyone else in the office, Max was the only one who insisted we place his newspaper on a chest-high shelf next to his door so he did not have to bend over to pick it up on the floor.

Max is obviously a diva and a retarded, grating one too. This explains the de-emphasis Conan gave him in later years on the show.

Eubanks is funnier than Max, sorry. Leno had a good straight man goofy guy thing going with eubanks. Max is more of a straight guy, and straight guy + straight guy combos aren't funny. If Eubanks is leaving, he should be replaced by someone who can play goofy.
