Park Slope Plane Noise Will Only Get Worse

The Park Slope set's rally against aircraft noise is still going strong in the neighborhood. Last night they went face to face with federal aviation officials to describe the overhead aural assault that they face daily. Jim Williams of Brooklyn Against Aircraft Noise (it's a thing!), told them: “We can’t sit on our deck anymore! Every minute — whoosh whoosh! We can watch them fly overhead.” Not feeling any sympathy for the guy who has the luxurious deck? According to the Brooklyn Paper, there was also a resident who said her cancer was exacerbated by low-flying planes.

FAA rep Stephanie Branta was not moved, simply saying, “All these flight patterns are tightly maintained. We have guidelines that must be followed.” Suggestions from the locals were rebuffed by the experts, and one pilot even warned: “With this next generation [navigation] technology they’re rolling out—if you think it’s bad now, just wait. Things are not going to be pretty." Sorry Slopers... serenity never!

I'm really tired of hearing about people moving to NYC and complaining about any kind of noise. Go back to Iowa if you want to hear the crickets.

  • Darrell

You live in a city and your worried about noise pollution?

  • Greenpoint60

Pointer after 9-11 they banned airlines oner NYC, air pollution went down

These people are insane. Let's ship them some vagrants from less placid sections of the city so they have something legitimate to complain about.

  • Hey, I'm a Sloper but I have never had a problem with them. As for people claiming planes gave them cancer...that isn't how it works.

  • MEDICNYC

I hear you. I don't think anyone claimed it caused their cancer in this article but the woman's statement that the cancer she already had was exacerbated by low-flying commercial aircraft is equally ridiculous.

I grew up in Woodside with the plane landing right over my backyard. These whiners are pathetic if they think that's noise.

As someone who lives in Park Slope and even works from home, I've never been the least bit disturbed by the planes. They're just part of the atmosphere, and I've actually noticed that a lot of the stroller kids seem to get a kick out of them. Plus, the planes are not nearly as noisy or disturbing as an idling FreshDirect truck or a honking bus. These jerks must live on the quiet blocks where there's no street noise.

Where are the rallies against loud Park Slope tots and their screeching mothers? I can't sit in a coffee shop any more listening to my iPod or focus on my laptop.

i lived in parkslope for about 8 years now live on the other side of prospect park and hang out on coney island beach during the summer, i never hear anything?

what are they talking about, its the same plane patterns over and over again all day and all night all year long?

WTF, go sk teh residents of queens where these things land and ask them how their previous noise rallies went.

the only noise i hear around here is CARS and ghetto birds.

    BOOHOO!

Go to astoria, woodside, howard beach, or rockaway for plane noise. You whiny jerks.
