Transgender Woman Was Strangled to Death

040110andujar.jpg A Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death for Edelbuerto (Amanda) Gonzalez-Andujar: homicide from compression to the neck, and detectives believe she was killed by a man she had been dating. Her body was discovered on Tuesday in her Ridgewood apartment when a concerned relative asked the building's superintendent to open her apartment, having not heard from Amanda in three days. Friend Milagros Ramirez told ABC News, "She was such a sweet person, you know? She was loved by everybody, so I just can't figure who would do this."

Police are surveying security cameras in Gonzalez-Andujar's building to see if they can find her murderer. Friends say the four security cameras between the building's entrance and Gonzalez-Andujar's apartment show her entering with a man on Saturday morning and then the same man leaving alone a few hours later, but the police have yet to confirm that evidence. According to the Daily News, one neighbor reports hearing a loud fight on Saturday night, but there was no answer at the door by the time officers arrived. Gonzalez-Andujar's laptop was also missing from the apartment, suggesting her murderer may have taken it to prevent the discovery of correspondence between him and the victim.

And let me guess, it happened for the same reason why hundreds of other transwomen get killed each year, because they started dating someone but refused to disclose their transgender status until after they had gotten intimate. Seriously, its always going to be an issue, why not just bring it up at the beginning of the relationship? It seriously cannot be worth the assalts and murders by not bringing that shit up.

Way to blame the victim here - even if your baseless assumption were true, that does not even come close to justifying what happened. Regardless of disclosure, responsibility for murder is 100% with the murderer

But why are you even assuming she didn't disclose? Oftentimes men will date trans women, fully aware that they're trans - but once word get out to their friends, or they start to get insecure, they get violent and claim they were "tricked." Because it's their word against a dead woman's, and they know people like you will see things from their perspective and at least partially blame the woman who can't defend herself.

(And Gothamist - please stop using her birth name and acting as if Amanda was some kind of nick name. Have some respect)

    This is really sad.

I'd advise against reading the article on the Daily News site, all of the ignorance and hate in the comments section there will just make you feel worse.

Thanks for the tip. Stuff like that infuriates me. Anonymity makes people so cruel.
