Artist Keeps Mural Controversy Fresh

muralagain.jpg Artist Sofia Maldonado has been learning about the art of publicity following her Times Square mural controversy. The imagery she unveiled proved so controversial a protest was held demanding its takedown (even though it isn't really all that controversial!).

She has spoken out in her own defense several times (hmm... can we get a protest on the unnecessary prolongment of this "controversy"?); most recently she's penned a piece for the Huffington Post. In it, Maldonado calls her mural "much-debated," reiterates that it was not meant to insult anyone, and explains, "These are working women, just like the rest of us. They're not working in Wall Street? They're not carrying briefcases? Well, that does not make them less professional—even though they might not fit in with Corporate America."

Interested in seeing more of Sofia's works? The PRtist finishes with a plug for her next show: June 17 at the Magnan Metz Gallery!
