Injured Prospect Park Swan Died

John Boy Walton, the Prospect Park swan who was found injured near the lake last week, died on Monday :(

According to WPIX, Animal Care and Control had taken him to "Wildlife in Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation" in Massapequa Long Island on Friday. A rehabilitator there, Bobby Horvath, said the swan's legs were not moving and noted that he may have been attacked by another swan (they are a feisty group!). Since no tests were conducted, the exact cause remains unknown.

The same day John Boy was found injured, a dead duck was also discovered in the area, leading some to believe they were both victims tied to the recent string of mysterious mutilated animal parts being left in the park. While officials are investigating all of these recent incidents, they say that they're not likely related to the religious ritual of Santeria, rather that the animal parts are being "dumped there for God only knows what reason."

Another theory (at least behind the bird deaths) is that the water in the lake is contaminated, something that is being tested.

Swans are nasty little bastards. I wouldn't be at all surprised if another swan killed this one.
