City: 1, Adult Video Stores: 0

Following an eight year battle, yesterday the city won a ruling that will strengthen its ability to keep adult video, theater and bookstores in check. Around 125 establishments catering to the triple-X set may be forced to close if they can't go legit.

What constitutes "legit" in this corner of the X-rated world? The Daily News explains that some businesses "sought to sidestep a 1995 zoning law by devoting 60% of their floor space to non-adult material. The city tweaked the law in 2001 to go after those shops, saying their compliance with the 60/40 zoning rules was a sham because their main focus was porn." Under the latter law, stores with over 40% of space devoted to adult entertainment were prohibited in residential neighborhoods.

So now, the city has permission to shut down any adult biz that took advantage of the old loophole because they were operating as a predominantly adult-oriented business. The city's criminal justice coordinator, John Feinblatt, told the Real Deal, "It is obvious to community residents and the city alike that many of these so-called '60/40' establishments are shams created by adult businesses in an attempt to avoid complying with the law." Let's all just click our metal-studded black leather heels together three times and go back to the good ol' days.

Oh please! You so-called new yorkers keep talkin about how ratface giuliani cleaned up times square but obviously, you bozos fail to realize that he didnt do it for new york. How many new yorkers do run into when you walk around times square?

  • Thespis

None. The New Yorkers know how to f-ing walk.

    +1. hahahahahaha

i didn't get this for a minute. hahahaha

    Listen up.

Guiliani chased the stores from Times Square and they moved to neighborhoods like Chelsea and the Village, parts of which are zoned Commercially or Manufacturing.

So, now kids on Sixth Avenue and the far West Side on the way to school must witness it.

Brilliant fucking move by your hero, Rudy il Duce

Hello! Women are still being harassed and assaulted. Don't you read the papers?

And instead of drug dealers on the LES, we now have scores of bars for drunken frat boys and B&T types. At least druggies didn't vomit on the sidewalk and scream all night.

I'm curious. Were you even living in NYC in 1994 when il Duce assumed power?

I happen to love the "good old days", or what real new yorkers call the real new york. Sure all the cowards would disagree, but it was our city.. snickerdoodle is one of those cowards because he/she praises giuliani for his extreme radical actions, but all he really ever did was take new york away from new yorkers and gave it all to the tourists..

Yes, let's go back to the "good old days" of NYC when it was dangerous for anybody to be caught in certain areas after dark; when women were sexually harassed and/or assaulted daily by these perverts, where drug dealers around these places were common sights, and people had fear for their safety and well-being constantly.

Guiliani was 100% right about quality of life issues, such as these gross porno places. I very much like the new safer NYC today, thanks.

Could we please find another word for this trash besides "adult"? It is anything but!

    Exactly.

    Dear Sheep Snickers...

yeah, only about 10 NYPD officers were arrested last year for RAPING WOMEN (and one man).

Thank god NYC is fucking SAFE now, eh?

I mean, when the POLICE COMMISH is going to prison you know a city is safe!

Hey, sorry I didn't get you a birthday gift, b/c you were clearly born yesterday!

Let's debate Looney Giuliani's record in PUBLIC live. ARe you game?

Most I know who lived here then prefer it to what it has become:sanitized, corporized, homogenized and marketed to tourists, rich developers, pablum lovers and milquetoasts.

i still dont get it, if the law says 60/40 then the judge says following the law is taking advantage of a loophole and obviously a sham?

why dont they use this in other areas like the cigar bar law

10% of revenue must come from the sale of tobacco products, and 60% of revenue alcohol sales.

clos ethe place down and say hey since they followed the law they obviously want to break the law?

hey you cant build more than %25 of the roof for a deck, your specs say 25% so obviously its a sham to take advantage of a loophole.

    home office tax exemptions?

how about kids? if i have 3 kids and i claim 3 dependants isnt that a sham also?

the logic used by the city and finally finding a idiot judge is confusing!

its on ny1 news also, some guy saying criminal elements patronize adult video stores?

wanting a porno is criminal? ive never seen criminals hanging out in a porno store?

this whole rule was created by GHOULIANI to clean up times sq. brings those stores to places like chelsea or sunset park. no that those areas are gentrified where exactly should they go?

    political BS as usual.

by the way you get free porn on the internet anyway.

  • JenChungsBaby

Where are all these free porn websites everyone keeps talking about? I never seem to find any.
