Grandma Pistol-Whipped by BMX Kid

Last week a BMX kid up to no good attacked a defenseless older woman in Brooklyn as her 4-year-old granddaughter looked on, reports the Post. On Wednesday night the 68-year-old-victim was strolling with the little girl around 9:45 p.m. when the young thug—thought to be between 15 and 20-years old—came up behind her. Knocking her in the head several times with a firearm, he grabbed her purse, which contained a cell phone and cash, then sped off down Slocum Place in Kensington on his little black bicycle. The victim was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition; thankfully her granddaughter was unharmed.

I feel horrible for this woman, but ummm....

WHY WAS SHE STROLLING AROUND BROOKLYN AT 9:45 PM WITH A 4-YEAR-OLD?!

Kids should have been in bed by 7:30....not walking around town in the dark.

But he was just turning his life around, and was only robbing people because society has turned their back on his plight and inability to get a cell phone.

Any better description of the perp?

@wesleysnipesalot the author of this article has a history of yellow journalism on gothamist. It comes across as so amateur that I can't imagine it generating the page views the editors hope for.

The Post article only mentions the BMX once, in the 3rd sentence. It isn't even in the title. Nor is it integral to the story. But then again, without making it a main part of the story, you wouldn't get the reaction you wanted and drive up pageview revenue, would you Gothamist?

Why would putting "BMX" in the title drive up pageview revenue? If it said "bike" people wouldn't click? But "BMX" - OH MAN I GOTTA CLICK ON THAT!!

I'm pretty sure that a kid whipping a grandma with a gun would get a lot of press - not matter what form of mobility he happened to be engaged in at the time.

Do you work for the BMX-lobby or something? "BMX bikes don't pistol-whip defenseless grandmas - kids with no morals do."

"no no no. he ain't no biker. y'see, we bmx-ers are like, like... uhm... skateboarders...! we search for good spots night and day, working hard on our tricks, avoiding cops, avoiding trouble, and sometimes even helping little grannies carry their groceries. that kid probably stole that bike, probably from a really nice biker. he's a poser, i tell you."

    ps no. i'm not a bmx-er.

pps i have way too much time on my hands at the moment.
