Ollie's, Reeling from Back Wages, Files Chapter 11

042610ollies.jpg After being forced to fork over $2.3 million in back wages for more than 800 workers at nine restaurants, the Ollie's Noodle Shop mini-chain is filing for bankruptcy. Ollie's has three Manhattan locations, two on the Upper West Side and one in Times Square; owner Tsu Yue Wang expects to keep the restaurants open while filing for Chapter 11. Wang still owes some $250,000, which is due within the next five months.

After years of protests, the wages were recovered on behalf of cooks, delivery workers and waiters, some of whom were owed as much as $30,000. "Just because a corporate entity is now bankrupt, that will not stop us from seeking money from the individuals that operated the company," labor department enforcer Lorelei Boylan tells Crain's. And a lawyer for Wang said, “They'll continue to operate their business. They just need to work out a payment over time of the correct remaining balance due.”

  • really!?!?

So now everyone who worked there loses their jobs, great plan.

PS: I'm sure the restaurant was owned by an LLC, limited liability company, which means you can't go after the principals. Since they already declared chapter 11 the only thing the principles are required to pay is the payroll taxes. Ms. Boylan works for the Labor Department, and should know this if she is at all qualified for her position.

The one higher up on the UWS (84th) closed awhile ago... it's a Five Napkin Burger now. They flipped that space damn fast.

HOORAY! FUCK OLLIE'S! Surliest workers slinging shitty overpriced food... I hated their delivery guys as well-they continually tried to strong arm me for bigger tips. They can all go fuck themselves

I hope they go out of business. I lived uptown and used to go to the one on 90-something, and the service was horrendous. I got tofu once, didn't like the way it was cooked and I was yelled at. They always treat their customers like they are a nuisance. I hate this place and would be only too happy to see it fail.

Karma's a bitch. Pay people what they're worth, and I won't have to tip so bloody much.

Well, at least pay the minimum wage.

Tipping's just the way we've decided to structure our economy, for whatever fucking reason.
