Thinking Outside The Sandbox

sandboxfail.jpg

A reader sent in these photos from Riverside Park—one from tot lot 110 at Riverside and 110th Street, and the other from tot lot 108 at Riverside and 108th Street. Is this some sort of exercise to get kids to think outside the (sand)box? We've contacted the Parks Department to see what they had in mind when dumping the sand so far away from its intended destination, and will update when they get back to us.

UPDATE: Philip Abramson of the Parks Department tells us, "This is as close as we can get with a truck to deliver the sand. These piles were dumped last night in preparation for tomorrow morning when the Riverside Park Fund will host volunteers at each playground to help fill the sandboxes in preparation for spring. We've been doing this for a few years." So calm down, people.

Any idiot looking at those pictures, especially the one on the right, could see that was as close as they could get with a truck and they have to move it the rest of the way with a wheelbarrow. You really should have to be licensed to own a digital camera, and the first requirement should be that you have a job that actually involves work.

Is it whining to ask government employees to do the job they are paid to do? When did doing a half-ass job become standard operating procedure?

A lot of New Yorkers are becoming entitled little whiners. The world around them must run perfectly, after all, they deserve perfection. What shocking pictures... it's as if they had witnessed a UFO landing because we all know fairies deliver sand directly into sandboxes.

  • I think the Parks Dept wants kids to dig for the fence and bench!

Probably the new sand that will replace the old sand when it's removed.

I'm going to guess that that was a close as they could get the truck to the box.

Step one was to deliver sand to locations.

Step two dispatch crews to move sand to final location.

    2nd that

i've had to call 311 to complain about NYCPR workers driving dumptrucks and cleaning vehicles dangerously around that park, so nothing would surprise me.
