World's Largest Passive-Aggressive Note Spotted in Burg

Someone is taking passive-aggressive note-writing to a whole new level. Miss Heather spotted this giant cardboard sign on Kent Avenue and North 1st Street in Williamsburg recently. The note reads: "Dear Medieval Slum Neighbors or Transients, Please buy trash cans. Take it off your rent, or call your parents or servant to clean this up. I hope you are at least using your indoor plumbing. Yours, Your Appalled Neighbor." Sigh, and now they have to recycle that massive piece of cardboard, too?

further proof that most of my former college buddies moved to this post-grad dorm of a neighborhood. *sigh of self-righteous indignation* so glad i don't live amongst these plebes...

At least the passive aggressive note writer tried to fix a typo in the first sentence-unlike some Gothamist writers. Whoops! My comment was a wee bit too passive aggressive...

  • mookie

you guys don't really understand the meaning of "passive aggressive."

  • Guest

i will try my best to consider this one of the most intelligent comment of the day. :)

...i don't know the meaning either.

  • timmmyk

I really have to agree with Mookie. This is about as straightforward and direct as you can get. Passive aggressive this ain't.

Friggin' hipsters and whiny passive-aggressive notes! No, wait - Friggin' hipsters and their leaving trash everywhere! No, wait.. Damn, how do we blame hipsters for this?!

  • aspiringrapper

Well, you can laugh at the "author" of this article, as clearly their citing it as passive aggressive is passive aggressive.

  • NannyState

You're holding up a mirror to other mirrors.

    argh... ur... ...dur... HIPSTERS!!! arhhh..!

    there.

  • JenChungsNewBra

Jen 2, what's your weekly quota on hipster releated articles?

  • nicemarmot

Heh, I wrote a similar note to my neighbors in Stuy Town many years ago. Somebody put it in the trash compactor less than a day later. I'm pretty sure the same guy purposely left his trash next to the compactor too. So yeah...the passive aggressiveness feels initially rewarding, but sadly can lead to even more passive aggressiveness back at ya.

  • JacqueMehoff

OK, why do people do that?

is it that hard to open the trash compactor door and push your bag of trash down? The same happens in my building.

I wrote a passive aggressive note, even noting the apartment number to shame them.

What I want to know is does this building have daily trash pickup and how does the NYC dept of sanitation handle that pile of trash.

  • bluebird420

if you knew the apt number of the people doing it why not knock on their door and talk to them about it. i would certainly take greater consideration of someones suggestions if they spoke to me about it personally rather than try to 'shame' me in an anonymous note. it's your apt not the internet, no need for anonymous trolls in real life.

  • hotstepper

the author of this note has my eternal admiration.

    What you said.
