PETA Takes On Tyson

tysonpigeons.jpg PETA is urging New York City prosecutors to investigate Mike Tyson's reality television show about pigeon racing. (Also, Mike Tyson has a reality television show about pigeon racing).

The Brooklyn-based show will follow the former heavyweight champ as he competes outside of the ring, and inside the world of pigeon racing (which we visited here before). PETA claims the show is cruel to animals, noting in a statement that "the birds often end up lost in storms, being injured or just becoming so exhausted that they're unable to fly." They group also alleges that the show involves illegal gambling. A rep for Animal Planet, the network it will air on next year, says there will be no wagering on races, and the pigeons will be "cherished and respected by their owners."

According to MyFox5, PETA has sent a letter to the Brooklyn DA's office requesting an investigation, and the office says they are looking into the allegations. The show is still set to start filming this spring.

They're pigeons, not an endangered species like Tigers.

The world can use fewer pigeons.

Your extreme level of stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Must be your inbred genetics you always talk about.

hose of you who are naive about pigeon racing need to be told just what this so called sport involves. Pigeons mate for life. They NEVER get a divorce and only death can end their relationship. Otherwise, they hang out together and share all the responsibilities of raising their young including the males also take turns sitting on the eggs. So what these "pigeon racers" do is - the take one of the couple, either the male or the female and separate them from their mates and their young. They take them hundreds of miles away from home and then simply let them go. The one that gets home first is the winner. Only problem is that a GREAT many of them NEVER make it home. They've never been taught how to find food on their own and they have NO idea what a hawk or predator is. Meanwhile, my pigeon rescue group here in the city is always finding lost and injured and half dead racing pigeon

O.K. Peta, I'm a sorta fan, and I dig how you toss paint on rich people's furs, but you're kinda losing me.

Why do so many trashy people have such a strong affinity for these filthy animals? Mmmm, Salmonella anyone?

    wouldn't**

  • so1337

If the filthy animals cleaned up after themselves, we would have much of a pigeon problem.

    I thought we hated pigeons?

  • jibbly

Not all of us, I think pigeons are delicious!

That photo shows Tyson showing more compassion to the pigeon than he has ever been pictured showing to a human.

Oh,I forgot. PETAphiles don't care if humans have their ear chewed off or are raped in hotel rooms. (Maybe Mike was aroused by one of those misogynist PETA ads when he raped the woman. Who knows?)

What's next, PETA? Banning flea circuses?

  • 40oz.killa

thefacts- do you even know what you're talking about?

  • Guest

Yes he does. PETA cares nothing for humans.

  • Gotham Extremist

PETA is currently writing up a ban to stop all lions from eating other small animal, yep, its on their drawing board, as we speak.

  • Thespis

Pigeon racing just involves flying from point A to point B. The risks to the bird are things like "being eaten by a falcon" and "getting lost." In other words, the risks are the same risks any bird encounters in nature.

So...PETA has a problem with nature, now? Yes, true, if the birds remained locked in their coops their entire lives, they probably would never be eaten by a falcon. But a bird's natural place is flying -- the pigeon isn't supposed to fly?

Man, PETA can't even keep their crazy consistent.
