I'd rather contend with a thousand "racist trolls" than read that dull, milquetoast pap that passes for commenting on Gawker. Even Anderson Cooper doesn't read their shit anymore.

  • Stevennnn

This is what happens when a website gets too big. I also noticed there have been much more news posts compared to a year or two ago.

Selling out has been a time honored tradition in the world of Capitalism. Good for them!

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

So both Dolan and Murdoch want to take down the Gray lady. Mortal Kombat. I hope they all kill each other

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Shouldn't Gothamist had the scoop on its own sale?

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

oh no, those that mean Gothamist will be pro-animal cruelty in regard to Ringling Brothers which is now in Madison Square Garden owned the the Dolans. Oh no :(

  • Dead Himmler

So in a way every time you visit Gothamist after it is sold you will be supporting animal cruelty.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

in a way I am since I do ride transit everyday and you are employed by MTA. Shame.

translation to AnnaZed's comment: "i haven't gotten laid since i broke up with my x a few years ago. well... there's that one time after i broke up--but that doesn't really count."

  • dirty hipster

Ugh - if Cablevision buys Gothamist I won't read anymore.

  • handsomedevil

I have a feeling they won't care, though. Lots of random people seem to surf in and out besides us 100 or so comment trolls.

Congrats to Jake and Co. for making what is in any realistic world a fuckload of money off of endearingly bad paraphrases of the local news.

What the hell are we going to read now?

  • babyhitler

WTF!!!!! The one person I hate the most in this entire city, James Dolan, and Gothamist is spooging on his ass cakes! I can't fucking believe this! just for 5 milly too? what the hell? I would have thought at least 20-30 mil. I guess I'm going to move to Gawker or Slate, which I swore would not do. Oh well, it's been fun. Even a rat knows when to leave a sinking ship.

Gothamist, the local city blog network that is best known for its New York City edition, is being acquired by Cablevision-owned Rainbow Media, paidContent has learned. Between $5 million to $6 million, though we understand a good portion of that is a performance-based earnout.

    Pay wall to come.

Staffers to be replaced with cheaper ones living in Long Island parents' basements, rather than staffers apartments subsidized by Long Island parents.
