Paterson: Aqueduct Deal Will Be Done In One Month

After the state rejected a politically-connected company's bid to bring video slot machines to the Aqueduct Racetrack amidst allegations of favoritism, Gov. Paterson said he wants to restart the selection process within a month. Paterson said he hopes to choose a winner soon so the state can benefit from a much-needed $300 million in licensing fees before the state's March 31 budget deadline, though officials might turn out delivering the budget late.

"We are hopeful to find a procedure that would work within a month," Paterson told the Daily News. Although the new process empowers the state's Lottery Division to review applicants and select the one that provides "the best value," Paterson said he will also "have a role" in selecting the winning company. The Governor is expected to meet with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) and Senate Democratic leader John Sampson (D-Brooklyn), who also have say in selecting the casino operator, according to Newsday.

Yes, let's rush the whole process through so the state can tap some of that gambling cash! Never mind that the process will probably be tainted again!
