Would IKEA's New Subway Campaign Work in NYC?

0310ikeasubway.jpg

As part of their latest ad campaign, IKEA has furnished the Metro stations in Paris. Off the top of our heads we can think of a few reasons why this would be a horrible idea in New York City (bed bugs, theft, all sorts of bodily fluids soaking into the seat cushions)—but at the same time, it does look pretty cool. I don't even sit on the wooden benches in subway stations anymore for fear of bedbugs. Can you imagine how vermin-infested these things will be? yuck.

What fun checking for loose change!!

  • PorkJuiceMilkshake

WTF?? Might as well put open toilets cuz that couch will have all sorts of stank on it soon

Must wear gloves if I go to IKEA in Red Hook, that's ground zero. Eech.

    BEDBUG CONDUCTORS.

  • youngpro

reminds me of the cushioned metro seats in london, the ones i'm deathly scared to sit on in fear of sitting in piss, vomit, fart stains, poop stains, etc.

  • Cannibal

Your farts leave stains? Are you on Alli?

  • rapscallion

Sounds like he needs some Chipotle-away.

I was going to say that the Parisians can certainly be trusted with such displays. Then I remembered how the Parisian free bike system crashed and burned due to vandalism. Tant pis!

Unless it is bolted down to the ground and covered with a polyurethane coating, this would never work here...

Many Queens homes cover their couches in plastic, too. These couches will likely appear on the Grand Central shuttle platform. That's the usual choice for advertisers.

  • Think2wice

Weapons-grade plastic seat covers. Like my mom had in the 80's.

    Bedbug Nirvana

  • Gwinny

yeah, that's what I was thinking.

I'm going to Paris in a few weeks - I'll be sure to report back on the state of the furniture.

Sadly, I actually own one of those couches...

  • NannyState

It would only work if the furniture were Louis XV.

  • grumpyGramps

    Definitely gonna get pooped on.

No. the same reason why we can't have anything nice in NY unless it's privatized. Too many urban people. they fuck everything up. In japan, the kids have to clean their own schools. In NY the kids have more kids.

  • mocanlagunas

"In NY the kids have more kids." -- Brilliant!
