Today: FDNY Gives Out Batteries For Smoke, CO Detectors

2010_03_duracell.jpg Today, the Fire Department is distributing free Duracell 9V batteries at ten locations across the city to remind New Yorkers to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as they change their clocks this weekend (yes, it's Daylight Saving Time at 2 a.m. on Sunday!). Locations of the free battery giveaway are after the jump.

According to the FDNY, while more than 97% have at least one smoke detector, a third of them don't work due to a missing or dead battery. Here are smoke detector tips from FDNY, including "Keep your bedroom doors closed while you are asleep. Better, install detectors on every level of your home,"—and did you know that landlords are required to provide smoke detectors in "multiple-dwelling apartment buildings? But it is your responsibility to maintain them!"

Why did the FDNY pick the most ghetto parts of the city to disburse them free batteries?

  • Cannibal

IDK, maybe they thought the other places cold afford batteries?
