Snowball Gets 4 Teens Arrested

phptS0qgYAM.jpg Four Bronx teens are facing a year behind bars after nailing a cop in the leg with a snowball. Their crime? Weapons possession, attempted assault, menacing and harassment.

Late last month the friends were out in a snowstorm and hit officer Adonis Ramirez, who was not in uniform at the time. According to the teens, Ramirez then pulled a gun, and 19-year-old Christian Perez tells the Daily News, "I thought he was some drug dealer who was going to shoot me in the head and walk away. We only hit him once, and it was by mistake." They nearly got laughed out of Central Booking when they said they were in there for a snowball.

Meanwhile, Ramirez claims he was struck with several snowballs as he was walking to his car; he also says the group was taunting him. They allegedly called him a "bitch" and said "Let's jump him." Somewhere between pulling his gun out and having them arrested, he called 911 for backup.

While the Bronx district attorney doesn't plan to drop charges, the friends are preparing to slap the city with a $10 million suit. Their lawyer says, "You would think that the NYPD would focus on real crimes and not on young men playing in the snow during a nor'easter."

It was a clear cut case of abuse of authority. I don't like to get hit by snowballs either. One being lobbed by a 19 year old man hurts. However, I am not a police officer so I would just have to live with being hurt and angry and get on with my life. The OFF DUTY officer should have done the same thing.

  • laisla

Hey, the Vagina Monologues are coming up in Harlem in April. Lots of vagina.

  • LB

Wow Cops today are pussies! I mean literal Wet, Dripping, Piggy-Fem Pussies . Now don't get me wrong, If the kids throwing those snowballs were black the cop probably would have thought about drawing his weapon and firing a round at them ! None the less, If they did it on purpose then they deserve what they get .

  • IAM_NY

You're walking down the street and get hit by a stray snowball. You don't like it and glare at the 4 young men that are the culprits. They look at you and say like many punks when they are in a goup of 4 "What...keep walking or We'll jump your ass". You've just been menaced so you put your head down and walk away wishing there was a police officer around to do something about it. They picked on a cop and got busted, end of story.

  • laisla

Exactly. Getting hit by a snowball can be painful. And then threatened? I wouldn't be so thrilled.

  • Thespis

Yeah -- I don't know if it went down like that, but if so then the arrest makes sense.

  • Loulou

they tried to start something and jump a dude ended being a cop

I almost got "jumped" by some 4 kids down in south 3rd in bk..started off with them throwing snow than as soon as I threw back playfully (because I figured they were just jk).. they tried to jump me

they basically lured me for a fight..im not saying that's what exactly happened..but happened to me.

only thing that came out of that was my "legal" blade

all from snow who would have thought

  • Joan Angelson

How come NYPD cops are so out of shape? The Fireman are in great shape!

If someone hit me with a snowball I would curse them out and give them the stinky finger, I sure wouldn't pull a gun on them! I've heard Adonis Ramirez swims on the other side of the pond. Maybe they are all gay and this was their mating call for all we know. This guy shouldn't be a cop in this great city of ours.

  • Ph

Great, lets rack up the felonies on these guys now so we don't have to do it later.

    And the beat goes on.

  • sowhtifithppnsitwll

    TYVM ;-)

  • 5borough

    18, 19 & 22 = Grown-ass men.

The 22 year old is old enough to be a cop.

  • JenChungsBaby

These four teens should do their snowballing in private.

  • potsmoker

pulling out a gun when hit with a snowball is a BITCH move. so its ok if a cop does it, but when you hear about the familiar story, teenager shot when hydrant soaks passing car, its some sort of lunatic.

guy is a lunatic and shouldnt be trusted to serve the public, if he pulls out for 4 kids with snowballs, imagine what else hes capable of.

walk away, call them assholes, if they persue then its ok to go epic beard man on them.

  • Stephenson Billings

If these kids truly are innocent, they have nothing to fear in court.

  • Wza

Yeh, because the law usually sides with civilians over cops.

    Please.

  • Rocknrope

That's one way to meet your summons and arrest quota.

  • I heard Buddy the Elf was there!

  • ASSTACKLER

Transit cops are like beach cops, big chips on their shoulders due to inferiority complex I guess.

  • l3iodeez

Ah, a transit cop. That explains a lot.

  • SighR

Whatever. They'll get off. Dude wasn't even in uniform.

  • MEDICNYC

If you mean to say that you can't be arrested for breaking the law in front of an off-duty police officer you are greatly mistaken.

  • 5borough

If he gave one of them a deserved asskicking everyone would say he should have held them for court. He holds them for court and it's a problem too.

The fact that grown men think its ok to throw snowballs at strangers says a lot. I wish they would have encountered a nut, not a cop.

  • l3iodeez

Actually I think a mild asskicking would be appropriate response. A lesson gets learned and nobody ends up with a criminal records.

Ill take a beating over a night in central booking any day.

it takes four kids to make 1 snowball to throw at someone? shows the intelligence of these young bucks in the 'hood.

kinda wished it was a pusha whom these kids threw a snowball at. shoot these kids dead to show 'em a lesson.

    "don't f*** with someone you don't know"

then the victim's families would cry out ..."it was insensible! it was just a harmless snowball! *insert crying*"

yea but your son was stupid enough to throw random s*** at strangers who might be packing.

  • l3iodeez

    Wow. You're a POS.

I hope your children get killed by police for being stupid. Maybe then you'll understand that kids act stupid sometimes and as a society we need to be able to handle it.

unrelated: where did the weapons charge come from? Were these kids carrying weapons? or is a snowball considered deadly these days?

  • izsosick

One "kid" was 19. He's a grown adult. It's common sense that you don't throw stuff at people.

If I threw snowballs at you, should you just shrug it off and keep walking? Of course not. You'd confront me just like any other person would.

If the cop flashed the badge, told the kids off, and walked away, you THINK they'd listen? My best guess is "no" but of course it's just a guess.

It's not OK to accept "stupid" behavior.

If that same 19 year old got drunk, got into a car, and ran someone over? Would it be OK to let him go b/c he was being "stupid"? Of course not. Is this an extreme to his prior act? Yes but you can't excuse it b/c he's young and stupid.

  • 40oz.killa

If you can't shrug off a snowball being innocently thrown at you from a teenage kid, then you got problems. Just throw one back, or just laugh if off. Your gonna press CHARGES? THE FUCK? get a life.

  • 40oz.killa

    izsosick your a bitch

  • izsosick

Hold up. Let me laugh this off.

There is nothing innocent about deliberately throwing s*** at people.

Just like there's nothing innocent when I shoot my load on your girl's face.

I hope I taste good to you when you go kiss her.

    Bitch.

  • Oh Almighty Walrus King

"There is nothing innocent about deliberately throwing s*** at people."

...snow is a four-letter word now?

  • izsosick

in my reference to 's***', i was referring to the word 'shit'.

  • Oh Almighty Walrus King

no, yeah, i got that, it was more meant to illustrate the absurdity of this seeing how we are talking about SNOW! i mean, if they'd been throwing... um, i dunno, rocks? bottles? rabid ferrets? i'd be more inclined to see your point, but it's snow! snow! the mere mention of the word should make anyone not dead inside go "wheeeee" and the only thing more harmless to throw at someone is a kiss!

  • vespavirgin

Ferrets are illegal in NYC. So that would be very very serious.

  • Oh Almighty Walrus King

Ah yes, true, just as Rudy taught us (and David from Oceanside) years ago - "Ferrets’ Rights Advocacy" be damned!

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/05/us/politics/05radio.html?_r=1&hp

  • izsosick

Yea. Sure, it was only snow but why throw snow at random people who wanted no part in the shenanigans?

Why not at each other and leave people be? If they wanted to join in a snow fight, they should of done it in Times Square like everyone else did that one night.

And of course, we don't cry foul beacuse no one got hurt but what if someone did? Would we sing the same tune?

  • bigmikebrooklyn

i'm 33 and i was throwing snowballs in the storm.

because i like to have fun. the cop is a bitch. your straw man arguments about drunk driving and killing people and shooting and all that stem from a snowball. You must be Adonis Ramirez to be that upset about snowballs. yo, you actually are defending dude/yourself for pulling a gun on some kids because they hit him/you in the leg with a snowball (apply allegedly on both sides of the case)???

that's some bull shit cop attitude. everyone's out to get me cuz i'm a cop. because everyone knows i'm a cop even when i'm out of uniform. I should shoot them before they shoot me. etc. etc. etc.

Beat cops should have to leave their guns at the precinct when they clock out if everyone else doesn't get to have a concealed carry permit in this city. and they should be fired for brandishing their weapons when they're off duty. It's a death machine, carry a fucking baton or something if you're real worried about taking a beating from 4 youths. over reaction. careless disregard for human life. god complex.

  • izsosick

i didn't say you couldn't throw snowballs at all. i said you don't throw them at strangers. throw them at your boys or wifey or people you know. you don't throw snow at random people just like you would hope no one random ass throws shit at you.

even if it s a snowball.

you throwing snowballs at strangers makes a f'ing joke too.

read loulou's comment and see what happens when someone tries to stand up for himself after he tried throwing snowball back at some kids.

"I almost got "jumped" by some 4 kids down in south 3rd in bk..started off with them throwing snow than as soon as I threw back playfully (because I figured they were just jk).. they tried to jump me

they basically lured me for a fight..im not saying that's what exactly happened..but happened to me.

only thing that came out of that was my "legal" blade

all from snow who would have thought"

i'm not saying it's right that a cop pulled out his piece on some kids but would that shit even started if young bucks just left heads alone? the kids were troublemakers in the first place with misdemeanors on their rap sheet. and you tellin me that those kids weren't lookin for trouble?

if you were in the cop's shoes and you heard a crew say "let's jump him", you wouldn't pull your piece? fuck you. you would do it in a heartbeat.

lil jon said it best: "Don't start no shit, it won't be no shit"

  • 40oz.killa

    stfu bitch

  • 40oz.killa

Its a fucking snowball. I don't know what kinda bitchass childhood you had, but where i come from, kids have snow ball fights for FUN. Sit down stfu bitch.

  • izsosick

You've gone past childhood once you hit 19.

Plus, you throw snowballs at friends for kicks. Not random strangers, fucktard.

Now go do society a favor and walk into a open elevator shaft and tell us if hell is hot after you hit the bottom.

  • felldownthewell

At 19 you're only an adult by law. You have to forgive little shit that DOES NOT MATTER, like throwing a snowball. Yes, they made a bad decision, but not on the same level of driving drunk or shooting someone with a paintball gun. The crimes aren't even comparable.

If you throw these guys in jail in for a year they're more likely to end up actual, society-harming criminals. Let it go.

And if you think this is more than just than just pissy bitch cop, next time it snows, call 911 and say you were hit by a snow ball. They'll send a waaaaaambulance and tell you to fuck off back to your child-proof house in the suburbs with its padded corners and mini van.

  • 40oz.killa

im sorry but at 19, your considered a baby, a young'n, its a young fucking age. So you're saying if a kid threw a snowball at you, you'd lace that kid up over a fukcing snowball? Lol don't talk to me bro your not even on my level.

  • izsosick

You don't need to be 42 to know that's smart thing to do.

And you're right, we're not on the same level because it's quite obvious that I'm way above you.

Sidenote - if you are going to use the word 'your', please use it to describe ownership of something or possession. Not as a contraction. Use "you're" instead.

Or do you need to be older than 19 to know this?

  • silver

One day its throwing snowballs. The next day its graffiti. Then its robbing the bodega.

Would it be kids being kids if they shot the cop with a paintball gun? its just kids having fun right?

  • l3iodeez

Paintball guns are illegal in NYC. And they don't FALL FROM THE SKY EVERY WINTER.

The line is somewhere between throwing snow and picking up a weapon or defacing property.

Not every line is hard to draw.

  • schadenfreudian mensch

No different than any other cop who get assaulted by a snowball. They start pointing their guns at said snowball assailants.

    http://dcist.com/2009/12/police_officer_brandishes_gun_at_sn.php

  • Daniel

wull it's a little different. no one got arrested in DC.

  • swoop

Pulling a gun on someone with a snowball is more menacing. Even if you're a cop. Even if the kids were behaving badly and purposely throwing snowballs at the guy. It shouldn't warrant pulling out your gun. It's like a self defense case where the victim is charged with manslaughter for killing his attacker. You don't pull your gun out for every little thing.

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

    he called for backup? LOL

  • MEDICNYC

Yeah I'm sure if you had a group of kids taunting you threatening to "jump you," you wouldn't be scared at all or even dream of calling 911. What would you do? Scare the shit out of them without that fucking bullshit animal-rights crap you spill on this blog day in and day out?

  • vespavirgin

I would think that pulling out my gun would be enough to stop some teenagers having a snowball fight. So, no, I wouldn't call for backup. That would be rather embarrassing, actually.

  • youngpro

you realize you're trying to reason with a robot, right?

access denied! access denied! circuit overload! pets in danger!

  • FelixtheCat & Christine Quinn'

Well I definitely won't expect any help from EMT

  • Boogie Down

Officer Ramirez - your first name is Adonis. Thus, I think that a snowball in the leg is the least of your problems.

  • NannyState

Any cop that freaks out about a snowball is a bitch.

bad time to prove that you are a cop

  • 40oz.killa

Officer Adonis Ramirez is a lil bitch!
