Video: "Hey Jude" Subway Sing-a-long

Reader Scott caught this moment on tape at around 10:30 last night in the Times Square subway station—it's sort of similar to the "Hey Jude" sing-a-long that went down during the Newark kissing bandit/security breach episode. Maybe the Beatles song is the official theme of delays?

    WHAT ARE THE LYRICS.

  • Dear Gothamist,

Heartfelt thanks on behalf of the whole buskering band, which is called THE MEETLES and as my fellow bandmate Maggie Clark points out, plays in the NYC subway system on weekends .

I think that "Hey Jude's" effectiveness as a means to handle delays (and other life obstacles) stems from its integral lyrical message (which counsels patience and faith). When you addits anthemic sing-a-long 2nd half, you're hypnotically cured of all temporal ills.

Years ago, I thought that "Hey Jude" was square and for saps. But I was so much older then, and I'm younger than that now.

  • Dead Himmler

I am way too cool to be ever involved in something like this.

Thanks for featuring the Meetles on the Gothamist. We perform 3 times per weekend at subway stations in midtown (see www.meetles.com - Shows). We have covered well over 100 Beatles and solo Beatles songs and most are on video so there's surely something everyone would like. You can view some of these on YouTube on the MeetlesVideo channel.

If there is a worse Beatles' song, please name it.

  • Potty Boy

I certainly can't. Never could stand that song. Though the spirit of the moment was definitely nice.

Sure, just look up 'pretty much anything else you listen to'. :)

Ah, makes one yearn for the old Times Square subway station, with signs pointing toward the IRT and three-card monte drug dealing scum roaming the corridors.

But alas, Times (Sq) have moved on. Actually, I can't hate this clip either :)

  • S.K.

I love the new TSQ station. Good artworks, space to move about. Except for the long transfer tunnel between 7th and 8th Avenues.

  • hotstepper

    awwwww...even i can't hate on this wholesome feel-goodery.

  • SeasTooFarToReach

I hope at least half of those people gave them something.
